Lots of BS although I do agree with the general idea that the banking system is in serious need of a overhaul.. - not a private organization but a quasi-govt.. - does not operate for profit (all the profit goes to U.S. treasury at the end of the year) - does not operate outside the control of congress as congress can change the authority of the Fed

Anybody, and I mean anybody, who has had some level of college education in the US can tell that what is posted above is complete hogwash, nonsense, out and out lies. While I agree the financial system, which encompasses banks, leaves much to be desired and is in need of serious remedy, the arguments put forth in the article above is nothing but anarchic propaganda. It is so blatantly wrong that I do not even feel the need to debate it.

I'm not sure how much of it is true but what is concerning is the fact that - Federal Reserve Bank (FRB) has shareholders from banking institutions - US Government is borrowing money from FRB for all governmental works at a loan - US Govt is paying the FRB and making them more rich, most of the money is coming from public's taxes - Question is why doesn't US Govt make it's own money instead of borrowing it from a for-profit banking entity?

My answers to your questions: - Federal Reserve Bank (FRB) has shareholders from banking institutions Federal Reserve Bank, in short Fed, not FRB, does NOT have shareholders. However, they do have advisory board in which some of the larger financial institutions participate. - US Government is borrowing money from FRB for all governmental works at a loan US government issues treasury bonds and other financial instruments to raise funds when needed. It does not borrow money from the Fed. - US Govt is paying the FRB and making them more rich, most of the money is coming from public's taxes This is just not true.
- Question is why doesn't US Govt make it's own money instead of borrowing it from a for-profit banking entity?
No government, even our almost defunct Nepal government, can print it's own money all willy-nilly. This will immediately devalue the currency and impact the economy most severely. US dollar is the de-facto currency of the world. If the government starts to print without any accountability, then not only the US economy but the world economy will collapse. It'll be like in Germany after World War I or in Argentina few years ago, just 100 times worse.

Agreed w/ Riten for all the above points with one exception... Fed has the authority right now to issue and buy back treasuries (it is not the Treasury Dept that handles this)... That coupled w/ the reserve requirement for the bank means that the Fed has the huge impact in the liquidity... and what are those treasuries collateralize with? The taxpayers money of course ( or in general faith on the revenue stream of the U.S. govt)... extending this further, I think that last point above is somewhat valid...

Well well... one educated fool being supported by another age old educated fool... As rewire said, you guys should go back and take English 101. Did your English teacher allow you to put reference from whatever source you wanted? For me, I would not sacrifice what I have been believing for years just because of these handful movies. Of course, these would be an starting point but not the ending... I am open to the idea but I hate people who try to understand everything and categorize everything in nice stacks as these movies do... World in simply not as simple as that!!
