Recycle Bin,
Really? My lawyer told me that it's around 18 months for Nepali. I don't know whether she was telling me the fact or not. How about for Master's degree?

Does it really take 3-5 years for Nepalese to get GC for Bachelor's Degree holder? I thought it'd take around 2 years. I know one of my friend who has Master's Degree got GC in around 6 months. So, I guess it all depends!

smoothkiller,
I said " I know one of my friend who has Master's Degree got GC in around 6 months." I didn't say he got GC within 6 months after his master's degree. He was in H1 before he got his GC. Hope it clears now!

your employer can file green card any time after h1 there is no any time requirement. Currently it is taking about 7 yrs to get green card according to the current visa bullletin http://travel.state.gov/visa/frvi/bulletin/bulletin_3925.html
They are processing 2001 labor right now. This may change in future. but last year july all visa no. was current so some lucky people get their green card in 6 months even with undergrad degree.

Yep, it's going to take longer now than it did for those who filed before July last year. As San dai said, it's going to be a long wait. Some of you might know that the government hasn't set aside any additional money to work on the looong backlog that the USCIS is engulfed in right now. But if you can file under EB1 (for which you would need a Ph.D., awards, and research/publications, you may still have your green card in your hand in less than six months. Now that's only for a very few.
