Hey I want to know has anyone taken FE/EIT exam recently? I am planning to take in either October or in April. Any suggestions? which book should I use for preparation. Thank you in advance for the suggestions.

Go with 'FE Review Manual' written by Michael Lindeburg. Beside that, you have to buy 'FE-Supplied Reference Hand Book' and get familiar with it. This is the only book you will be allowed in to keep in the exam (they will provide their own book in the exam and you have to return at the end of the exam).

Here is the link for FE supplied Reference handbook:
www.tumcivil.com/manuals/ce-handbook/fe_reference_handbook.pdf
They will provide this on the exam. You cannot take your own print to the exam hall. But its tha same habdbook.

Some useful books for morning session are:

FE Review Manual: Rapid Preparation for the General Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (F E Review Manual), 2nd ed. by Michael R. Lindeburg (Paperback - Jun 30, 2006)

1001 Solved Engineering Fundamentals Problems, 3rd ed. by Michael R. Lindeburg (Paperback - Mar 15, 2005)

Fundamentals of Engineering : The Most Effective FE/Eit Review (Fundamentals of Engineering, 10th ed.) by J. Dilworth, D. Farnum, F. Hatfield, and G. Mase

Fundamentals of Engineering: FE Exam Preparation (Fundamentals of Engineering: Fe Exam Preparation) by Donald Newman (Paperback - Jul 23, 2004)

I used the last one. Its pretty good.
For afternoon session I went with Electrical. I didnt buy any book. I used my own course books and studied the topics on the syllabus.

Prerit, Makar Tantra
I think SSN is compulsory while registering for the exam. Is there any provision for the students without SSN?

Yes. You need to have SSN for FE/EIT exam. If you don't have SSN or not elligible to get SSN, then you can use TAX payer ID No. I think you can get it by applying to IRS (i don't know the detail procedure though). You can contact IRS to inquire about this.
