I don't call myself a DJ exactly, but I do the same sort of things with my laptop and few controllers. Unlike traditional DJ who say Vinyl and scratching is the only def of DJ, technology has changed a lot and it's all duable with a laptop and infact it opens endless possibiltities. I play all sort of music, but I especially focus on fusion of Easten melody with trance, house and ambient genre. I mean what is there unless you have at least a bit of originality of your own.
I personally don't think you can DJ a pure Nepali song (unless your def of DJ is playing them on a Windows Media straight and staring at the monitor tilll the next song) due to the beat in traditional songs with madal, sarangi (I'm not saying the new ones). It's not possible unless you re record the song with new beats and punchy grooves, which has been done by few artists (the one in my mind is DJ Raju who did Changba Ho Changa...it's a good one). No this doesn't include old recording mixed with new beats JABARJASTHI like Deepak Thapa's songs; so many has done it with such poor quality of the record itself. Sampling a piece is fine but not the whole freaking song. Why not hire someone with good voice and record the song your way, mix it and do whatever you want.
I'm an ameatur myself and I visit Laptop Battle and watch DJ whenever I can, but it's hard to find the time coming form Nepal with NEEDS (U know what I'm saying).

So Vhootee - where are you? It is good to know people who entertain nepali folks rather then indian playing music on nepali occasion. Keep up the good work. It don't matter how you entertain - Laptop works just fine as long as the people are dancing. Keep in touch.

I'm in the US. There're lots of energy and talents among the Nepali Community all over the country and it won't be too long before we'll have a major star soon. That's what I think.
