KATHMANDU, Jan 2 - Rights organizations have deplored the alleged manhandling of students inside a public school by Royal Nepalese Army (RNA) soldiers in Surkhet district, on Monday.
Armed RNA personnel entered the Khanddevi Secondary School at Chaurase, Satakhani VDC and manhandled sixth grader Chudamani Poudel, accusing him of being a Maoist activist. Soldiers thrashed Dipak Ghimire, a tenth grader, after dragging him out of the classroom. Ghimire is the chief of INSEC children's group as well as the Junior Red Cross Circle.
Bishnu Dhakal, another tenth grader said the soldiers tortured him accusing him of being in the pay of Maoists.
This is the first time soldiers have "manhandled and assaulted" students inside the school premises, said Ghimire.
"We protest such acts from soldiers who are responsible for providing security to society," said a statement issued by the school principal.
