72 parties registered for municipal polls

Altogether 72 political parties have registered with the Election Commission (EC) to contest for the municipal elections to be held in January next year. Friday was the last date for registration.

Parties not registering with the EC would not be eligible to participate in the elections, with the election symbol, spokesperson at EC, Tej Muni Bajracharya said.

However, candidates of such parties can contest in the election as individual candidates, he said.

Anyone of the identities among citizenship certificate, land registration certificate, press card issued by the Department of Information, government owned office/school?s identity card, letter from village development committee or municipality offices or any identity card issued by any authorised organizations could be used for voting purpose, EC said.

Two nationally recognised political parties, the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and Nepal Sadbhavana Party (NSP) have applied for the registration.
