Kusunti mishap baby succumbs to injuries

In what it is seen as an utter human tragedy, the infant who was delivered after surgery on her unconscious mother on Monday died 32 hours later on Wednesday morning at Patan hospital.

The hospital had kept the infant in an incubator. ?Despite our efforts to keep her alive, the baby died as she had respiratory and cardiac problems caused by the mishap on Monday, ? reports quoted Dr Bal Krishna Subedi as saying.

On Monday night, five people of the Karki family were killed when their taxi collided with a passenger bus in Kusunti of Lalitpur district. The family was rushing pregnant Devaki to Patan Hospital.

Devaki died in hospital soon after the doctors operated on her and delivered the baby on Monday. nepalnews.com pd Jan 20 05
