Administration alerted against use of territory by Nepal refugees
Siliguri, Dec 3 (UNI) The West Bengal government today alerted the Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri district administrations for posting of security forces along the border of Bhutan and Nepal in view of 'Bhutan Chalo' (go back to Bhutan) campaign tomorrow by people of Nepalese origin.

Official sources said the alert was sounded as the refugees during their march would use Indian territory of Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri to go back into Bhutan from eastern Nepal.

There was no other route the refugees could take to enter Bhutan except using Indian territory.

Sources said the forces have been already deployed in Panitani area and other places in Darjeeling district bordering eastern Nepal.

About one lakh Bhutanese of Nepali origin had been camping in about eight refugees camps in eastern Nepal across the Mechi river bordering Darjeeling.

Bhutanese authorities pushed them back after a movement for democracy in the Bhutanese kingdom a decade ago.

The refugees had been negotiating for long to return to Bhutan, but certain conditions were imposed by the Bhutanese government which was not acceptable to the refugee leaders. Now they had planned to return to Bhutan with a campaign to 'Bhutan Chalo' beginning tomorrow.

Official sources here said forces had been deployed in all vulnerable areas of Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling districts so that foreigners could not use Indian territory.
