100 ways to make things better

Our new government has come up with its 100-point action plan or agenda or whatever you want to call it, to make things better for all of us. If I were Kumar Ben, Balen's chief advisor, I would have added another 8 more to make it 108 just to give that 'religious' vibe as well. I don't find it a problem if any of us are religious as long as we are tolerant and respectful of those who may practice a different faith or have different beliefs.

I was reading about how our great business house, the Wai Wai Chaudharys were going to build a US$ 100 million hotel in Thamel in the next few years and suddenly the 100-point thing came up. If I were a conspiracy theorist, then I would see some connection but I don't think Balen is a Wai Wai fan so let's not see any link to the number '100' for now.

While the public was still digesting the fact that Oli and Lekhak were arrested, the Balen government has not wasted time telling us what they plan to do in the coming days with their 100-point agenda to make us feel that finally, we have a pro-people and a pro-business government in town.

While previous governments always called themselves the servants of the people, they more or less acted like dictators and enjoyed the loot without having to face the music. They had their own people in our judiciary and in the law enforcement agencies and the bureaucracy, and they knew very well that nobody could or would hold them accountable until everything went haywire for the mili-juli government after the Gen Z massacre.

I hope some of you have already read the 100-point thing or the summarized version online and I think it is a good start and let us not go into details and question the government on how they will implement all the stuff mentioned. This is not like the 40-point demand of our Maoists back in 1996, which they failed to implement when they came to power in 2008.

We have a strong government now, and not a coalition circus, which we have witnessed in the past two decades. Some of our non-RSP wallahs are questioning the 100-point roadmap to provide something for the people. These are the same people who will not be happy with anything. I think they either have been milking the system or are now sad and depressed that their affiliation to the old parties will no longer guarantee them some government jobs or contracts or funds.

I don't want to bore you to death by listing all the '100 things we plan to do' by our new government here. But we are all hopeful that this government will work towards minimizing corruption, making our bureaucracy more efficient and productive, and the public will finally feel that the government is working for the welfare of its citizens and not their own cadres, cousins and shady contractors.

Let us wish them all the best and hopefully, they will be able to fulfill the tasks they have set out for themselves. I am happy that our government has finally realized that we have not been able to give the respect and the resources to our MARGlNalized and vulnerable communities.

The government is apologizing for the discrimination and oppression of Dalits and other MARGlNalized communities and plan to bring out programs to uplift them and provide equal opportunities and resources to help them overcome the discrimination and oppression by the State and our society as well.

Prachanda and Deuba have not apologized for killing 17,000 people then. Oli and Lekhak have not apologized for killing our kids during the Gen Z protest. The three eggheads have also not apologized for looting the nation dry in the past two decades. How hard is it for these buffoons to say that they are sorry and repent?

Some people are questioning the 'Blue Bus' thing for our women. It's a good start. I don't think 25 buses for our seven provinces is enough but hopefully, we do want to see the government take care of the public transportation in this country and end the mafia raj by our transport entrepreneurs.

The first thing we must do is get rid of all 20-year old and plus vehicles on our streets and implement heavy fines for those who fail the emission test. We have to make sure that our public buses do not pack us like sardines and have a maximum limit for standing instead of trying to squeeze two football teams in a Micro with a capacity for less than 15 people.

I like the idea of home delivery for our passports and all but maybe we should make our wards the collection center, which will be much easier and more effective or else we can revamp our postal system and copy the US postal service on how to deliver our mail efficiently.

The business community are more or less happy with the government's plan to make it easier to invest in the country and open up new companies but it all depends on how our sarkari karmacharis do their job because, at the end of the day, these people are responsible for most of the stuff. And we have to strongly act against tax evasion, fake VAT bill scams and other illegal accounting and under-invoicing by most of our so-called big business houses.

For the first time in 35 years, we feel that this government will work for the people and not extort us and make us run around 9 different rooms to get a form signed by our hakims. If we can go all digital and paper-less and cash-less then we can really minimize corruption.

And another former Minister from Nepali Congress has been arrested today for money laundering. It looks like this is going to be a daily routine, and by the end of the year, we might have a thousand or two so-called netas and hakims inside our prisons.

Hope Sudan Gurung, our Home Minister will also work towards prison reform and make their lives a little easier because our jails are overcrowded and run by inmates instead of the police or prison guards.

And we really need to make our inmates are productive as well by operating printing presses for our Nepali-English combo calendars and home-made pickles and bakery products instead of just letting them rot in jail. How about mandatory foreign language classes like Mandarin or French and by the time they get out, they can work as tourist guides and live a productive life as well?
