Looks like you guys are reading too much from Immigration advocate sites than from reputed sites. Read the link down below. The reason MacDounough gave was “ the impact and consequences of immigration bill is too big and too far reaching to be included in budget reconciliation and hence senate (60 votes) should decide its fate, not budget reconciliation (51 votes)” that is when the bill aimed to legalize 8 million people. Now you guys saying she will agree to move registry date to 2010, which will legalize more than 10 million. Keep dreaming people. Keep being fooled by democrats. Only chance immigration bill will be passed is when republican government brings immigration bill and democrats support it. But democrats wont do it, because it will give credit to republicans for passing immigration reform. Democrats killed immigration reform in 2008 when Bush tried to pass it. Bairaghi, What you are saying has some merits. Both Democrats and Republicans are equally as bad as each other. Both don't want to fix it, they just want to kick the can along the road and use it as a tool for politics and votes. Remember when Trump backed off at the last minute in 2017/18 when dems agreed to give him the 20 billion for his wall in exchange for legal status for dreamers and TPS. This whole 60 votes> 51 votes and future congress can undo the what dems want to do right now is BS. Same can be said even if they got 60 votes. Lets say 2024 republicans have control of three branches and have 60 vote majority in senate. They can overturn it with 60 vote majority.

@kamila ko dumbell, when senate passes with 61 votes, it doesnt break any law and is considered as passed by senate. When they do with 51 votes, bypassing filibuster, it is considered some trickery and partisan and doesnt have same credibility as 61 votes. I dont think dems have balls to bypass filibuster to pass such a major bill. Now i suspect dems knew all along this is gonna happen, they just wanted to take credit for trying and fooling immigrants. If they are really serious abt this, why dont they break filibuster, bring seperate bill to senate floor and pass wth just simple 51 majority. There is a provision for that. No , they wont, instead they would put it into budget reconcilation and kick it into MacDonoughs court. They doesnt want to own it.

Filibuster proof 60 votes is to ensure that some sickos like trump or bernie/Aoc cant pass some extreme measures and make it into law, as its hard to get 60 votes by a single party, if they do, then well they have peoples support to back it up. Its a check and balance mechanism. Its the foundation of democracy. If they start making laws with just 51 simple majority, in no time US will be a lawless country like nepal or some african shithole country. Dems will never have balls to break filibuster and pass immigration bill. They just want to show to immigrants they are trying. I m all in support of immigration reform. I m just stating what is really happening inside, instead of selling false hopes like these dema are doing. Sooner u realize this, better off you will be. Thank me later

@Bairaghi Dems not gonna get rid of filibuster. Manchin and if i'm not mistaken Sinema also said they wont be voting to end it. I know the point you are making in terms of checks and balance & balance mechanism blah blah etc, etc. What you are saying sounds all good but you also conveniently forget what republicans did under Trump. Had the roles been reversed reversed republicans would not give a crap and pass their priorities regardless. ie: raising debt ceiling under Trump being okay but now all of a sudden its not okay. Expediting Amy Coney Barrett so close to election but doing the exact opposite when Dems were trying to get Merrick Garland to the S.C during Obama's last days. Pretty much f**ked/gutted Affordable care act by getting rid of the personal mandate. So is the "checks and balance" thing only for Dems and not for the Republicans ? People just want Dems to show some balls and do what Republicans would have done if the roles were reversed. Don't get me wrong I absolutely think Dems deep down do not want to solve this or at the least knew they can't pass Immigration through budget reconciliation and all of this jockeying is just a show. If you can just update a date on any thing, just imagine how wonderful the world we will be living in. Everybody will be billionaires. And on a legislation of this magnitude and with so much opposition from republicans ??? Never. Even if democrats are brave enough and go on kamikaze mission and include it in budget reconciliation, supreme court will struck it down. As MacDonough said, the magnitude and scope of the bill far outweighs the budget it is being reconciled to. If democrats are really serious, care abt immigrants and are ready to sacrifice short term future, just get rid of filibuster rule, bring an independent immigration bill and pass with simple 51 majority. That has 1000% times more chances of passing than this budget reconciliation crap. Keep being fooled people.
