I had an accident earlier this week when a piece of pipe fell off from 18 wheeler infront of my car in a highway. There was no way I could stop, so my car hit it at the front and I had to drive over it all the way.
The 18wheeler driver and myseld, we both stopped. The driver was cooperating, and a police showed up.
I was later informed by police next day that they could not prove the pipe fell off that 18wheeler and the driver denied that he saw something fall off his truck. SInce the pipe could not be found in the highway aftewrwards, police filed the report saying I hit something in the road without mentioning anything about 18 wheeler.
Any idea what choice I have now.

but what was the nature of the accident? what was the outcome? from your post, it appears that you hit something that fell off the 18 wheeler and that's about it. did any kind of damage occur? was there any kind of collision as a result of you driving over that pipe?

What ever the case is, just report to your insurance, tell all the details. If any thing needs to be replaced or fixed , will take care of it. Have you exchange any information with the 18 wheeler? Give it to your insurance, insurance will try to pass his liability and may get hold of 18 wheeler. Some cops are bias on race.
If you are physical injured and needed medical attention, do not delay.

My car is damaged. I got the insurance paper from the driver, but per his insurance company, the 18 wheeler is not insured through them. From what I see, it looks like he gave me insurance paper for some of his other car / vechile. There were 2 vehicles in the insurance.
The driver was cooperating, but now after the police report, he may just back off saying he does not know anything.

If the driver admitted infront of Police and you , the police must be racist and favoring the female driver.
Your insurance will cover it if not covered by others' insurance, but you may end up paying the deductible.

Talk to one of those TV lawyers. If they can prove then you can make money off the trucking company and the Police department for being racist. If lucky, I am talking about millions here….

If you leave it to your insurance, your case will be assigned to an arbitrator. Problem is that the arbitrator will go the easy route and follow police report, thus confirming that it wasn't the truck's part that hit you.
It's appaling that the 18 wheeler chose that route, but he had it planned since he gave you wrong insurance card.
I would go to that location one more time and see if I can find the part. This is a long shot and you have to be very careful also not to get hit by another car in the highway. Talk to your insurance and see what happens if they decide that the part didn't fall off the truck. If they say you are going to be liable, then fight this off. Hire a lawyer; the only case you can make is that the truck driver gave you some insurance paper-which he would never have done if he didn't think a part fell off his truck.
Good luck.

The incident occured on a highway whereas speed limit is 55mph and 18wheeler was right ahead of your car.
When 'object' or 'pipe' fell on front of your car, you must have hit the brake or took precautions to slow down the car.
At that moment, 18wheeler must have gone way ahead of you. So who signaled the 18wheeler driver to stop?
If he stopped himself, that means he knew something had happend. Otherwise, you have to show the broken piece of object missing
on 18wheeler or you need to run back to the highway to find that object to make sure it fell from his truck.
Since you didn't tell us in which States this accident happend, I'd assume it happend in Mars.
Btw, $1000 deduct....so nepali brain!!!!!

Sexy In Sari, Good point. $1000 deductible? Seriously? What were you thinking? You must have been paying like $10 for your insurance then. lol

Get a tv lawyer as said before. The driver must have changed their testomony with police later. But u have a solid case because the drivr stopped , ga ve inwurane card tho fqke and cops did show up and he stopped until they showed up and may be initially admitted with the cops too. The driver is on doodoo now.u had ur word vs his if the cops werent there b. Now ur good. Dont claim ur Isurance they will go easy route as said up there

I also have a question related to insurance.
Few days ago, I saw minor a damage on one of the doors of my car. Looking at the damage, it appers that someone on parking lot might have hit my car while parking or pulling out of parking lot. I did not see that and no one left any info (i guess i am too naive here). So, my question is, could I get this fixed if I call my insurance company. My understanding is insurance companies may not be helpful if it happened in a parking lot. Never been to this situation before, so not sure how it works. Any info on this is appreciated.
Thanks.

My reply is to biology ,
I had gone thru same incident. I mean I found a dent on the side of my truck which was obviously hit by someone in the parking lot. I too didn't notice it in the spot or may be same day. I had comprehensive insurance coverage. So, I contacted my insurance co. and told my story. Their representative evaluated it and compensated it fully. Actually, I could make some money out of it for myself. Coz their official mechanic evaluated it according to his (or average may be) rate and the insurance co. paid accordingly. But when I took my car to my regular mechanic, he repaired it for less.
