Hello,
I am travelling through Gulf Air next week and I am wondering about their carry-on/hand baggage policy. My flight starts with US Airways but it is ticketed through Gulf Air so which Airlines's policy will apply. US Airways says that they will allow one bag (40 lbs) and one personal item such as laptop bag but Gulf Air says only 6 kg is allowed.
I would appreiate if somebody can share the experience, if any.
Thanks in advance.

If your first flight were AMERICAN AIRLINES, then you are allowed 2 checked bags. Since yours is US Airways, that may not be the case. Gulf air has complicated policies for Codeshare flights that are not American Airlines. Its best to call Gulf Air to see if their codeshare alliance includes US Airways or not. Here is link to the baggage allowance policies for Gulf Air. http://www.gulfair.com/English/info/Baggage/Pages/Baggage_Allowances.aspx The sections of interest to you are following (Note American Airlines gets treated differently than the rest)..... TRAVELLING WITH OTHER AIRLINES ON YOUR GULF AIR TICKET Gulf Air Codeshare flights operated by American Airlines to and from the USA or Canada, have a special piece concept applicable Gulf Air tickets issued for travel on other Airlines to/from the USA and Canada

Thanks to all.
My flight starts with US Airways from Charlotte to Frankfurt and after that I have to catch Gulf Air until Nepal via Bahrain. Same route for return. I confirmed with US Airways and Travel agency regarding checked baggages but still confused about carry-on/hand baggage. I will call Gulf Air tomorrow to figure out it. If it is only 13 lbs then if I carry laptop with me then I cannot take anything else as cary-on. That is frustating.

US airways will charge you for the extra luggage if you check in at the counter. Here is the trick to avoid that. When I travel US Airways I always take two hand carry one regular size and one little smaller. The flights are usually full and they offer hand carry to be checked in at the gate for free. So, you can check in the bigger hand carry and have smaller one with you. Hope that helps.

miracle, this is how it works... (at least from my past experience and recent ticket purchase.............)
since you have already figured out the checked luggage, all i have to say is to other ppl, please stop giving ideas and suggestions if you have no clue about it...or at least make sure you were talking about long time past scenerios. Otherwise simply give links and details from original websites. remember little knowledge is dangerrous. No hard feelings, just a suggestions..
Miracle, regarding hand carry, on most airlines connecting through Asia, and middle east will allow one hand carry (within the size specidifed) and one small laptop or personal item.
Since you are flying from USA, I have hardly seen them check the weight of ur hand carry. The rules apply for USA airlines and they will allow u to carry 40 lbs. But believe me, they will check the size (dimensions) of ur carry on if they see that it is little bigger. AT airport, they have that carry on check thing (i dont know what is the name) where they will ask you to put ur bag inside and see the height and nake sure it fits. You can help to squeeze it.
when u about to borad in Baharien to Nepal, they might asked to weigh, but then its irrelevant. Tell them this was ur weight from original destination and you have not bought anything. Frankfurt is not a problem.
In worst case, I took a couple of things out carries in a seperate baf until i reached plane and again put back in hand carry. So couple of unused platic bags is helpful to carry. Just in case.
When flying back from Nepal, they will not allow to carry anything more than 10-15 lbs which is like 5-7 kg, which in my case was almost the weight og the hand carry. Tara from Nepal you can make small couple of plastic Pokas if hand carry is heavy and make sure u put that back in hand carry only when u at the inside of plane.
hope this helps

I was searching Sajha to see if there is some information about baggages on Gulf air and came across this post.
I am flying from US to Nepal on Gulf Air ticket.
Itenerary is as follows:
US to London --> American Airlines
London to Bahrain--> Gulf Air
Bahrain to Kathmandu --> Gulf Air
I checked the baggage policy of Gulf Air at : http://www.gulfair.com/English/info/Baggage/Pages/Baggage_Allowances.aspx
From what I understand, for Gulf Air Codeshare flights operated by American Airlines I can two checked in baggages.
For the cabin baggage, it says:
Economy Class:
One bag (maximum dimensions 45 x 40 x 30 cm or 17 x 15 x 12 inches)
Total weight: 6 kg
So, am I only allowed to take just one hand carry, and not a laptop bag or a back pack ?
I am also confused about the dimensions of the cabin baggage. American airlines allows to take 22 x 14 x 9,
and my cabin baggage is of this size. I won't have problem with American airlines, but will I have problem while taking the Gulf Air flight from London?
If you know something about this or have had similar situation please share.
Thanks.

@tic_tac_toaaaa
Gulf Air Tickets. Gulf Policy. No A. No B. Yes, Gulf Policy.
When you say Gulf Policy..it means... You can take.TWO CHECKED-iN baggages with ANY AIRLINES.
Now, if you are a woman, you can carry woman HANDBAG, IF YOU are a Man you can carry your LAPTOP bag.
BUT WOMAN CAN NOT CARRY HANDBAG AND LAPTOP BAG..ITS NO NO. ONLY ONE...
CABIN BAGGAGE..( American Airline)
You know the dimension, they will put your bag on measure place if MORE THAN that area...NO NO...
So take midum size Gym bag, you can put stuff up to limit weight and dimension you can adjust, ..
Good luck!!!!!

1. If you have Gulf Air Ticket and your initial flight from US is American Airlines -> 2 checked baggages free. You can always take a hand-carry bag and a laptop bag. They might try to give only one baggage for free and try to charge for the second one. Tell them that Gulf air has agreement(codeshare) with American Airlines. Print the following page if needed:
http://www.gulfair.com/English/info/Baggage/Pages/Baggage_Allowances.aspx
2. If you have Gulf Air Ticket and your initial flight from US is other than American Airlines -> Baggage policy of the Airlines on which you have the initial flight. For example, US airways allows only one checked baggage for free.

I had backpack with two laptops and a carry on. It was not checked on US airport I think it was London ( GW) airport they weighted my carry on baggage which was over the limit. I had couple pounds of chocoletes on it, transferred to my backpack , doing this I was able to take all my belongings, otherwise I may had to dump some of my belongings or pay for the overweight charges.
