SUMMARY: The designation of South Sudan for Temporary Protected Status (TPS), which was set to expire on May 3, 2025, is automatically extended to November 3, 2025. Under the TPS statute, if the Secretary does not determine whether a foreign state continues to meet the conditions for designation for TPS at least 60 days before the current expiration of the country’s TPS designation, the period of designation is automatically extended for six months.............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................BUT Current TPS beneficiaries are reminded that, no later than sixty days prior to November 3, 2025, the Secretary intends to review the conditions in South Sudan and decide whether extension or termination is warranted in accordance with the TPS statute. During this period, beneficiaries are encouraged to prepare for their return to South Sudan, including requesting updated travel documents from the government of South Sudan, in the event South Sudan’s designation is not extended again and if they have no other lawful basis for remaining in the United States. May be their goal was to avoid lawsuits and make decision a day before expiration to encourage self deportation. Stephen Miller is evil.

Let's see what happens to Afghanistan on May 20th. However the media says Trump will end TPS for Afghanistan no such official notice is published. BTW good news for South Sudan. Good luck ya'll. Toes crossed lol.

@mr B, i think they will post probably by end of may for Nepal? At least there's hope that they are following the automatic 6 months extension. Last edited: 02-May-25 07:16 PM

@Mr B, I agree with you. The news did mention that this administration will terminate TPS for Afghanistan and Cameroons, but it appears that the updates have not yet been reflected in USCIS. Regarding Nepal, the administration needed to make a decision 60 days prior to the expiration date, which was around April 24 or 25. Since that period has passed, it seems likely that the automatic 6-month extension will be granted. For Honduras and Nicaragua, the 60-day period falls around May 5 or 6. We should wait and see what updates occur for those countries. I believe that if the decision has not been announced by then, these countries will probably also qualify for the 6-month automatic extension. It’s mostly a matter of when the administration will publish the official notice, hopefully not just a day prior, as was the case for South Sudan. Let’s remain hopeful during this time; that is all I am holding onto—hope!
