Happy New Year 2083 BS!

We here at Sukulgunda Dot Com would like to wish all of us a very Happy New Year 2083 BS!

Finally, after nearly 260 years of existence as Nepal and Nepali, we can wish each other a very peaceful and prosperous New Year. Well, we will have a few small chakka jaams, tyre burning festivals and railing bhacch-ing acts in the days to come but we are no doubt heading for a peaceful and prosperous year ahead as our new government finally cares for the people and works for the public interest and not for the interest of mafia byaparis and other con artists like in the past.

Let us not expect all of us to be making tons of money and finding better jobs but we have to be optimistic with the new government in place. Let the corrupt and the old political parties' cadres cry, whine and go crazy but the RSP government is here to stay for another five years.

Oli and Deuba will see their political career come to an end soon while Prachanda remains but we are happy to see him sulk and dazed as he drinks his whiskey in the evening, wondering what went wrong after being involved in the deaths of 17,000 folks and now being relegated as a nobody with his party's meagre 17 seats in the House. He knows the answer and so do we.

Balen has united most of us as Nepalis. We are proud of our new government, with mostly young folks in the cabinet and in the House. Even the Indian media and people are thinking, is this possible in their land? India is a whole different ball game and it is very hard to have a young government in place where a third of politicians are criminals with lots of cases in the courts and where caste and religion still play a major role in politics.

Young Bangladeshis look at us and wonder how on Earth did they get the same old party wallahs in place instead of the young ones who actually led the protests to topple the previous regime? The foreign media made it a big issue by only looking at Balen as a rapper and a former Mayor of Kathmandu and some kind of a fairy tale thing.

What they did not realize is that we Nepalis, mostly the young ones had the courage to finally stand up and take to the streets to protest against not only the social media ban but also against corruption, while the previous generations silently adapted and got used to the loot by the three major political parties in the past three decades and more.

Let us congratulate each other, the young and the old, for voting for change. And for those who did not vote for change and wanted to stick with the same old corrupt fogies, better luck next time if there is a next time but we respect your right to choose your candidate and hope the days of getting government jobs and funds based on political affiliation will finally come to an end.

Yes, it is not an easy road ahead. We are not expecting us to be the next Singapore or Switzerland anytime soon but we know that we will not be North Korea or Somalia any time soon either. With due respect to all the folks from these two countries but just trying to make a point here for now.

Balen does not want to make Nepal the next Singapore. He wants to make Nepal, a pure Nepal where our culture and traditions are respected and where we finally focus on the real problems in the country and promote our own products to the world instead of talking about going to the moon on a paraglider.

We might not be a US$ 100 billion economy in five years but we will get there in a decade or less. After more than hundreds of years of loot by those in power, Nepal finally has those in power who are not in it for the money or to bleed this country dry while fattening the wallets of their near and dear ones.

Let us promote our own products. Let us minimize our spending on Kit Kats and Pringles. Let us use public transportation more or walk to work if it is a half-hour walk. Let us visit our own places instead of visiting foreign places just for fun or shopping. And for those who are abroad for work or study, do not rush to come back home. Get your education first or make your money first, save and have a decent amount of money before thinking of coming back and doing something for the country, unless you want to be a TV host or get into social service or politics or be a movie star for now.

I think if RSP can just minimize corruption, nepotism and ensure that we are all equal and nobody is above the law, then it will be in power for the next decade as well and hopefully the Gen Zs will finally find better-paying jobs here at home.

For the Gen Zs, your sacrifice will not be forgotten and if things go well as planned, then the next generation, the Alphas and Betas will not have to leave this country for educational and employment opportunities like the millions of Gen X and Y and even Zs who are overseas for a better future. We thank them for keeping our economy alive and we hope the next generations will rule the world with their skills.
