Nepali Association of Oregon presents "Himalayan Night, 2002"

Background:

Nepali Community in Oregon is growing faster like many other Asian and Pacific communities. We have experienced a significant growth of Nepali community in Oregon in the later part of 1990s. Currently, over 150 Nepali residents and their families live primarily in Portland, Salem, Corvallis, and Eugene areas in Oregon. Our growth as a community has presented a need for establishing a formal organization to represent the causes of Nepali community in Oregon and foster fellowship in the local communities.

With this goal in mind, Nepali Association of Oregon (NAO) was formed in 2001. It is registered as a non-profit organization with the state of Oregon. A nine member executive committee was elected in 2001 for the first two year term of office. NAO objectives are listed below:
*Foster Nepali cultural heritage among Nepali people.
* Strengthen community bonds and fellowship in the Nepali community.
* Promote Nepal and Nepali causes in the local community. *Support Nepali people in Oregon in time of need and difficulties.
* Help people in Nepal through a direct monetary as well as in- kind grants.

NAO constitution and description of work plans are available at NAO web site:

www.nepaloregon.org

NAO is currently involved in organizing community events to mark Nepali festivals. It has also been participating in various multi-cultural events organized by other Asian-Pacific Communities of Oregon, including local colleges and universities. To foster relationship with local communities, NAO is organizing a Himalayan Night-a special event of Nepali Cultural Programs on Saturday, August 17, 2002 at PSU . We are very grateful to the Asian Institute and the Himalayan Research Bulletin of PSU for their support in organizing this event. The program is a first of its kind in show casing the talents of local Nepali community. The night will present Nepali folk dances representing many ethnic groups, and a demonstration of typical cultural festivals from various parts of Nepal. We will also have booths exhibiting Nepali artifacts at the venue.

NAO sincerely requests your presence to support this Nepali cultural night. The price of the ticket is $15 for adults and $8 for children under 12. The details of the program and the ticket sale can be found at our web site: www.nepaloregon.org.
