Dear Community Members and Friends of Nepal Namaste! The America Nepal Society is holding its annual Summer Picnic Sunday, 18th May 2003. All Nepalis in the DC Metro area, their guests, and Friends of Nepal are invited to join us at Wheaton Regional Park Shed #B, Montgomery County, Maryland Wheaton Regional Park offers variety of recreational and educational opportunities within its 536 acres land settings. The park is located in a beautiful forested area with so many features includes, ride on the carousel or train, go horseback riding, go fishing, ice skate, or play ball, tennis, tour the botanical gardens and conservatory, brookside nature center. The park offers excellent play area for children of all ages. You can bring your roller skate; bike or you can take a stroll through the wooded forest. The park is accessible by public transport, walking distance from Wheaton Metro station. The social gathering and fun will go on all day from 11am to 6.30 pm, with food served from 12 noon; Be sure to mark your calendars now, and pass on this invitation to all Friends of Nepal and returned Peace Corps volunteers. Especially, friends who have helped Nepal and Nepali people no matter wherever they are from. The ANS has organized many sporting activities for this years picnic day: 1. Vollyball contest: If you can form a team of nine people and would like to participate in a volley ball match, please register your team with Mr. Subu Kc (cell: 703 851 2970) or Mr. Tika Pun (cell: 571 330 6140). Teams must be registered before 12 noon on Sunday. Depending on the if we can make a temporary vollyball court and if the weather permits. 2. Basketball shooting contest: for the younger players, aged 16 years and under, the first and second will receive trophies. 3. Handi Phutaune (A blind-folded pot breaking contest): for adults and distinguished guests (contact person: Khilendra Neupane) 4. Piñata : 3 to 7 years Piñata: 8 years to High school age (Contact person: Ambika Gurung) 5. Shoe Race: 6 to 9 years Shoe Race: 9 and High school age ( Contact person: Ambika Gurung) 6. Cock Fight: 10 years and over (contact person: Netra Ghising) 7. Musical hat / chair: for ladies & Musical chair for children: (contact person: Tika Pun) 8. Rumal Lukaune typical Nepalis game for ladies (contact person: Kabindra Sitaula) 9. We will have cultural program which will be very informal and lively. Please come with your instrument and songs. What you can contribute: If you are a single person, please bring some soft drinks/bottled water. If you are a family person, please contribute pot-luck dishes for the main meal. The picnic site has few picnic tables but there may not be enough for every one, so please bring your own beach/camping chairs or rugs to sit on, especially to ensure senior parents are well seated.
