“Commentary on evolving Maoist Rebellion: Part II – The election?" Date: December 19, 2002 Thursday Time: 7:15 – 9:00PM Much has happened since we last talked about the history of Maoist rebellion in Nepal in the May 27th session. Congress Party (no longer ruling) split in two, emergency was lifted, election was announced and postponed, and the King assumed executive power. Now, the Chand Government is hoping to pull the rabbit out of the hat trying to hold the election. The presentation will focus on the government’s attempt to hold the election and the Maoists’ determination to never let it happen, and the implications it has for Nepal. Speaker: Saubhagya Shah Saubhagya Shah is an assistant professor at the Department of Sociology/Anthropology, Tribhuvan University, Kirtipur. He is currently completing his PH.D on state, international development regime and social movements in Nepal at Harvard University.
