Whats the rule for paying taxes while on OPT if you have stayed for more than 5 years? Does one have to pay all the taxes like a resident would pay or is it different? Any one?

hello Max,
here is the link
http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/international/article/0,,id=129427,00.html
Abt me, I am not paying SSN N medicare taxes but Im paying federal and state. Im here more almost 6 yrs. Even when I did worked using my SSN in summer, I didnt paid SSN and Medicare taxes while I paid others. The reason why I didnt paid is beacuse I told my employer that I am student and I wont pay SSN N medicare and they agreed with me. But you need to show the proof why you are not paying the taxes and I printed out this link and showed to my current employer. They agreed with me.

You're anwered and as you are a student you do not want to whitheld more rather get cash in hand.
But if you are planning to stay longer and eventually applying for GC then you may strart paying taxes medicare as well social security. That will determine your future benifit.
