Folks,
If
you are really frustrated with your H1-B situation, there is only one
category of people to blame. H1-B pimps, also known as 'consultants'.
By the way, they have given such a bad name to the word 'consultant'.
They have become modern day pimps, sucking blood of out of people, running scams and cheating people.
This is what you can do. If some consultant approaches you, tell him/her that he/she will be in the jail soon.
Raise
awareness among your friends not to join those consultants because
eventually it will come back to bite them pretty hard. There is not
such thing as good consultant. Perhaps, 1% of them follow law. But how
are you sure?
Do you part and everything will be alright very soon. source: Murphy.com

Dude, give us another solution for getting h1b? Direct jobs are always hard to get, isnt it better to have something than nothing? And I dont think anyone will just join some consultancy blindly, people are well educated so they know what needs to be done? I think most of our guys who have joined the consultancy must have done a hell loads of research, they must have consulted their seniors and must have joined some good consultancy. I beleive joining a good consultant is not bad for us who has no experience at all.
Even if you hunt for direct job, you will end up spending 3-4 mnths searching for it, and still not sure abt h1b and while hunting for job, u need to prepare a lot for interview, that means no gas stations, no motels, so no pocket money, how do we pay our rents and food?
Now joining a consultant will give u free food, free place to live, free training, and h1b(at least all my friends who went to consultant, got their h1b through it), I know they take a part of you salary, but dude if you join some company at an entry level they are going to pay less than what consultancy is going to pay, so what do we have to lose, we earn good money. Plus, you get an actual experience too, so after a yr you can go with direct job with actual experience.
I'm not a consultant or anything, and I've a job(direct one), but i would have joined some good consultant if i wouldnt have got the job and I can understand why our friends have joined it too. That is our only option.
Well this is just my thought, i know i could be wrong too.
just pray to god that we all get selected for h1b.

One more thing, FYI, you go to a consultant or not, they will file 200000 applications for H1B, 80% of applicant still being in India. So, it is not going to help you either way.

Everyone,
I am not a Racist, and this is NOT a racist post. Please do not
response with false assumptions. I am just sharing with my personal
experience with you all. I have friends from India. That is WHY I
encountered those India consultancy in USA. I DID NOT know how did they
play their games before I walked into the company. At first phone call
of interview, the India guy on the phone told me that I will definately
get my H-1b visa from them after thier training. The training is
usually somewhat relates to computer science. On the first day I
walked in, they asked my major (Pretty weird at this point, I told them
about my major long time about a month ago). Then they decide to train
me as a computer system validation specialist from a huge list of job
title (I still do not know what is going on). Then the training
started as 5 section training in about a month. There is an instructor
teaching courses related to the job that I was going to get (Wait! a
job that I was going to get!!! I was like what are you talking about
b/c his ascent was pretty bad). Then the last section of class, I
was freaked out and mad. I recieved a new resume that they made for me.
Yes a brand new one with a sudden 6 years of experience on it (I have
never been working in computer field before). Then they told me finally
how it works. Okay, assume there is a company A is seeking for a
senior computer specialist. The consultant will send the "FAKE" resume
to the company A then have them call you. Meanwhile, you will just have
to sitting by the phone and wait for those company to call you and lie
about your working experience. At the moment I knew what I got
into, I quited that consultancy right away. GUYS this is very unfair
for those people like us who worked hard and suffering through
education. I have been worked my butt off to get my master degree in
chemistry, and I only want to learn new skills or have a job that I
deserve it. I just want everyone to know what is going on. The
Indian company told me that there are so many of them out there, and
that is why every freaking year. Almost 30%+ of H-1B visa holder are
Indian, even more! If you are a company which just hired a senior
computer person who does not know anything through a consultant, you
might want to rethink about it and give other real worker a try. source: www.Murthy.com
