Whats wrong with old currency, why not focus to change economy, why not focus to bring safe drinking water and electricity? Now its time to rethink to wipe out all those corrupt and selfish politicians.

Well It's not bad idea afterall. Being a new democratic republic it don't make any sense to have a head of an ordinary citizen on the bill we use (although I strognly condemn the king being removed without any public opinion or census). But new nepal should feel like new nepal . Well it's a good thing on the other hand NRB wants to replace all the old bills with new bills with enchanced security and maybe they want to know how much money is in circulation. Although they say it's more than NRS 26.3 Billion (or close), I just assume the governments printing money without any accountability.
Well maybe they wanna control the flow of money in the country (they could just be doing the bills exchange thing to cover up the other underlying problems they created themselves).
Apart from that this could have been an opportunity for the people in NRB to give out contracts and make some commisions.
BTW why would NRB work on providing electricity and safe drinking water to the public when clearly that is not their job ? No ?

I think they are talking about government should be directing the resources to proper, rightly prioritized tasks such as providing electricity, water and other essentials rather than seemingly trivial currency rebranding (which I hear costs a lot of money).

This move was taken by the Rastra Bank to counter the credit crunch in Nepal. They want people to start spending and since a number of rich households are holding a majority of cash, the cash flow has halted tremendously.
There was a bit about it forwarded to all Bank Managers ( and trainees ) last week that sheds more light but I'm not sure I can really disclose it to the public, yet.

Agnibikram,
How does replacing the notes create spending? I think the real motive is more about finding out how much cash people are holding, both black and white Cash.

I stand corrected. That's what I meant. A lower ranking sarkari jagire holding 15 crore in Cash...that's not a strange occurrence.

They want to divert people's attention so that real issues are overshadowed.

Hi Pichas,
I do not mean to say NRB should provide clean drinking water and Electricity. I mean to say to the government and politicians who use to rule in this organization
