Mr Ojha,

If you can have freedom of speech then those people can have freedom to spend their money in whichever way they want to.

Maybe you or me wouldn't spend it that way, but to make a list of people and bash them for doing what they believe in, sounds a bit fascist. Let everyone believe what they have come to understand and accept.

You like it or not, it your problem but do not show your problem with attitude and with Vulgar word, that is what I did not like about your new comment.
लौ आयो नयाँ झटिङरे यो साझामा ,

Drained the Pasupati temple and wanted to do the same in USA, good thought as in past. No one will ask any question about religious work, we can be more religious doing things differently. I am wondering who ever provided 22K had donated some for charity too that is directly utilized by the needy.
There is point on against it. But you can add your comment positively but do no open your filthy mouth. Sorry I got that mouth too.

Thanks for reading.

Freedom of donation is always there and has already been done. YES people can and will donate money to whatever and where ever they like ON the other hand  there is a freedom of speech too so many of us can express thet we dont like the Idea of people WASTING their money on a temple, I know its their money, they can burn them and I would care less. Read my above post and tell me if Im wrong,

BUT if that temple will open a social service section and will start open schools and hospitals in Nepal with all the donation money. I will be a supporter and donater OR even a member. BUT if its just going to be like any other temple in Nepal its waste of time

I can't believe that there are sickos who would even oppose such charitable work.

No one has right to tell others what to do with their money. Period.

I am all for those people who want to make Pashupatinath/Swayambhu here in USA. I am also glad that people teach their kids our culture, our language here, and continue their connection back home.

We can always raise questions such as following:

Some of you may drink alcohol. Have you ever thought of giving that money back to nepali poors?
Some of you may have gone to restaurant. Have you ever thought of making food at home, and donating the saved money to HeNN Nepal or some charitable organization?
..
..
etc. etc.

But the fact is we all do what we like to do, what we think is more important to do. At this moment, may be a lot of Nepali think it is important to make a slice of Pashupatinath here in the states. All power to them, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Similarly, may be several of them thought Nepaliko lash need not be taken back to Nepal; it is just unnecessary hassle. Or may be some of them thought the parents who could send the kid to the states may have enough money to foot for such bill themselves. In any case, there are thousands of needy people in this world, and people prioritize their charity in their own way. Nobody has the rights to tell others what to do with their money.
Let's have positive attitude.

Yes, talking against traditional religious work is sickos?  We are opposing to donate and suggesting if we can donate nontraditional way.

Imagine all those temple lying in between the roads or side of the roads, I am pretty sure half of them will be removed and thrown away. Many temples are ruined and now we are seeing the street shop.
Instead of those kind of charities  if it was done differently, we may able to see differences

Why don't you do it? Let us know what you have done nontraditional way. Stop telling others how to spend their hard earned money. Everyone can tell others how to spend their money.

By the way, I have no problem with the ruins of temples in Kathmandu. It may be ruin to you, but it is of historical importance for a lot of people. Not every temple has to be shiny and oily. All temples have their own little history.  What you say to be ruin could be something made by a grandfather of a peon in charkhal adda and he might be proud of such structures.

And for your information, it is often the same people who have donated for temple who tend to donate for schools and roads in most of the Nepalese cities/villages. I have never met a person who have donated only for temple and not for other things.

At the end of the day, it is all about a person's heart. If a man is kind enough to donate to protect his culture, he normally is kind enough to donate for other causes too.

Yes; I have done my way, and that is what I am trying to pass it to new generation.  We all know it, even a single stone from the past has may have it's own historical meanings.  But I have concern about the ruined history and feel sorry letting them in the street or footpath and people stepping on it. And I felt sorry to those who did for their selfishness when ever we needed to be communal we were too personal.. If we keep arguing in it will go on and on. You know what I am talking about and I know you too. So far in my personal knowledge very few people had done those religious work and those are only the stinking rich people. Did we jointly able to do it? Yes but much more fewer and the reason is it will not bring them to heaven nor to their deceased.
Just for facts: Tell me which school  or hospital was  formed by people's donation in Kathmandu valley? I can count them in fingers.
Now we started seeing Hospital and modern school but not for non profit but for profit reason or pure political purposes.

Any way thanks for sharing. Let me add something: Is there be a cremation facility next to the temple too so Nepali will be buried. In that case I may donate.

Bhojpure:

1. What have you done? Merely saying you have done is not enough. May I know what have you done.
2.  You wrote :"In that case I may donate. "
Get off your high horse, because I am not asking you to donate in any of the projects. You want to donate, fine, go ahead and donate for these temples. If you don't want to donate, then just go to the bar and drink alcohol. Nobody gives a hoot what you do. It is your money and your conscience. If you don't feel like not donating, rest assured, nobody cares.
3. Almost all colleges were made with the help of locals. Amrit Campus, Shankar Dev campus are even named after its first principle and major donors. But all highschools were built by some local participation. The biggest examples are actually in Chitwan. Almost all highschools there were built with the principle that land is donated by people and in some case local government, and the schools would be built with govt money. But locals ended up building schools anyway. Chitwan also leads the tradition of naming highschools: i.e. a donation of 30 lakh or more may end up getting you a name. Pious philonthropist such as Maiya Devi Shrestha has made a whole college for women (and yes, she makes lots of temples too).

Regarding hospitals, even in Kathmandu, now they are getting huge private donations. For example, Min Bahadur Gurung's donation to make maternity ward in TU , in which he is donating a total of Rs 13 karod. Almost all hospitals have funds for poor people, often given by wealthy Kathmandu citizens.

Most of the new hospitals have raised their funds by organizing mahayagya. And Mr Pokhrel and his father had done their bit for this.

So Bhojpure, if you don't want to donate, keep your money in your pocket. Nobody will bother you. I believe in giving, whether it is for temple or for something else. No one has the right to tell me where I spend my money. Period.

If you keep your Lotaa in Sajha forum and you expect us not to put our views. Now I am realizing you are a man who do not want to back up even you do not have point to go ahead.

We did not saiy ,  No body should donate, but we urged that why Temple not other way of charity? But you are the one saying mem  go to bar and drink alcohol. Sorry fella I think we are said enough and Heard Enough from you.  Good Luck.

Oh, yea.

Any one can read this thread and see who is saying what. The whole thread is about criticizing others for doing what they are doing with their money.

Some jerks like you wanted to criticize people who were donating the money to make a temple in this faraway land, so that their children can have a slice of life they used to have back in Nepal. It was their money, and their cause and jerks like you have no business interfering or making fun of them.

I can be nasty with you, but given your level of arguing, I let you run away or have the last word. :)

MYSELF Growing up near Boudha and pashupati, Ive seen a lot of people giving donation to Priests and lamas to perform rites and pujas blessings etc AND Ive seen  how stinking rich they have gotten in time, all thanks to  our cultural tradition where we believe that we need to spend money for Daan and dharma. Like its a ticket to heaven for people who donate large sums to Gods, It still amazes me that NO matter how many beggars and Kids, hungry and crying outside and around the temple, they ignore pain and suffering all around yet dont stop to see a hungry kid crying, begging for love and food. Yes PIRE bro its non of our concern, its their money and they have a right to believe and spend anyways they want. I dont think people are angry that people are donating money,  But are raising a valid issue. Looks like the amount they collected could easily build a couple good schools and feed the thousands of hungry mouth in Nepal.  And even open a real dedicated Nepali help center  when tragedy strikes for example if an only son studying here in America dies help his family with the Body and money .Thats all Pire bro, no matter how many Temples they build here I dont think it will be enough to bring some Nepal here for our Kids.  I am a father and I face the same dilema BUT education starts at home bro.  OUR culture is deep rooted in all of us, a religion driven by daan dakshina blessings, puja hom etc towards prosperity is just not good in my eyes .BUT you are very right to say that people have a right to donate where ever.  Thats all. dine le di sakyo bro kura sakyo

Terobaje,

It is nothing personal to you. What you said is partially valid; but one can always make the case about almost anything.

If human have spent money only to feed fellow men, we wouldn't have had literature, drama, inventions, science, and so on. People must contribute to several fields. Life is not only about eating and feeding. I always thought a life without religious, adhyatmik awareness [either Hindu or Buddhist ] is incomplete. As a Nepali, that's how I always thought, and I never really differentiated between these two great religions. And I definitely hope that our kids know (whereever they live/are) about our cultural heritage back home, know about Dhawalagiri, Annapurna, Langtang and Everest, and listen to folk songs. That's how I feel and I think that's one of the most important things.

Also note that one can also make a case on why one should send a dead man's corpse back home, spending 12000K; afterall, a dead man can't come back. Plus, a kid's father who has a house in KTM is certainly capable of paying that much money himself. Why not we put that money to a charity in Kathmandu that helps old women? One can make certainly make these cases arbitrarily. ( I personally support sending these corpse back home, and helping these middle class family of deceased, so that they get dignified traditional send off at Aryaghat, but I was also providing an example of how some people might validly think.)

Most of the temples in the states do feed people for free. At the place where I live, lots of Americans go to a local Punjabi temple to eat free Langhar.

You just made a thread to bash around these people donating so much but you dont know why people are donating such a huge amount . This project has been planned from last 5-6yrs and finally this organization Ridgewood Nepalese Society based in NY has stepped towards to make it happen like you say why not donate to poor people / help to get those corpses back in Nepal . Go do your homework how much they have done in Last 5yrs for Nepali people living around NY ...There were couples of people who died in last 2 yrs this organization collected donation going to each Nepali peoples and were able to send back those dead bodies back to their family also helped their family with donations they had . There was even a case where there was no one to claim a body this organization took responsibility and creamated in some facility in NY . Specially if you are from NY Ridgewood area you would see the reality what these people are doing for helping Nepali people ...Finding apartments/works for them through their contacts/giving free trainings in Nails Saloons etc . Who would do that all these days in this selfish society and waste their time.

This Temple Project has just started actually they are buying whole land somewhere in NY and building a big temple with big hall upstairs which can be used for multiple purposes like marriage/bratabanda/Parties/Programs ....To do all these stuffs Nepali people have been paying loads money for renting that space for some time period just to do these programs if we have our own place where these things can be done easily without any issues and complaints .

But for this all They atleast need $100k . Don't think about Present this can be very great for future and for Nepali people .

I would definitely be a member.

and Pire bro Im with you in this issue. Thanks

It's Ridgewood Nepalese Society based in Ridgewood NY . Their Website is rnsociety.org .

Trust me people may be wondering about lot of donations but still target is to collect $100k so they can buy this land and make 2 storey building / one with temple and another a big hall for various programs like i mentioned in earlier post . I have seen the planned design of temple i must say it is awesome and one of the best thing Nepali people are trying to do in Foreign Land. This society also used to provide scholarships to some student from rural places of Nepal .
