A Nepali student who had gone to the United Kingdom to pursue further education has been jailed on Friday after his involvement in drug deal was proved at a local court in London, Kantipur daily reported.
According to the report, Krishna Sharma had gone to the UK to study MBA in January this year along with his spouse Pavitra Basyal. He was enrolled at E Thames college. He looked for work for over two months, and after he failed to find any, paid heed to the suggestion of a Pakistani national Ali to start a small business. Sharma registered a business in the name of his spouse and was involved in the business.
Police went after Sharma and Basyal, after British immigration officers found Class A drugs concealed in false buttons inside a parcel sent from Pakistan in the name of Sharma. They arrested Basyal from her workplace and Sharma on the way.
On Friday, Ealing Magistrate Court in London ordered the Sharma and Basyal be moved to jail. For the charges, they will get a jail-term of up to seven years and also be fined.
Sharma's lawyers are preparing to file an appeal in the county court. This is probably the first time a Nepali student has been jailed in UK in connection with drug deal. nepalnews.com
