Hi,  to all Sajha members.

I was wondering if anybody could enlighten me on ways to show "proof of funds" for a Skilled Immigrant Category Visa, at the Port of Entry in Canada . My quest is to know if it has to be in the form of a Money Order/Bank draft/Cashier's Cheque/Canadian Bank Accout etc. Would if be ok, if one could show his/her Bank letter/Statement if he/she has a bank a/c in the US, and or elsewhere around the World?

Suggestions would be much appreciated.

As far as I know you are supposed to carry enough fund to support yourself and family. The officer may ask you to show the fund  at the point of entry.

These funds could be in the form of:

  • cash
  • securities in bearer form (for example, stocks, bonds, debentures, treasury bills) or
  • negotiable instruments in bearer form (for example, bankers’ draft  , cheques, travellers’ cheques or money orders)

Number of
Family Members
Funds Required
(in Canadian dollars)
1                              $10,833
2 $13,486
3 $16,580
4 $20,130
5 $22,831
6 $25,749
7 or more $28,668

Hope this helps , if you need more info visit trackitt.com .

Canada is not expecting you to 'BRING' your life's saving when you land in canada. You do not have to liquidate your money to show proof of fund during landing.

In fact canadian immigration websites say that if indeed you bring more than $10000 in cash or draft you should 'declare' it. Not that you are required to bring amount in access of $10000. So 'Jhatka' is wrong in saying that your funds should be in liquidated form.

However, you do need to show reliable statements showing your funds if asked.

Biruwa, Your response is logical and makes absolute sense. I had not considered from that angle until you brought it up. Thanks.

Learn more about this country and immigrants before coming to Canada.  Yearly, 250,000 immigrants come to Canada. Jobs don't grow on trees, everybody knows.  The politicians just talk and talk as everywhere.

I came across some additional information. My friend recently went to canada on the immigrant visa. He told me that the immigrant officer did ask him what funds he had and how he was planning to transfer the rest of his money to canada in future to support his family. My friend went under the economic visa.
