Dil bahadur darji is an artist, in a village called Ratanpur. He is good at making statues and stone works. His artistic ability and perfection is popular around surrounding villages for making true to life sculptures. The villagers at Ratanpur decided to build a temple in the village, to avoid going to a nearby village. All the preparations went fine, Dil bahadur was given duty to make the sculpture of the goddess to be established in the temple. He pursued his duty duly, and everybody praised his job. In no time, the temple opened its door for public amid a function while, Dil bahadur was busy earning his bread.

Months later, once dil bahadur was returning home from market, he made his mind to visit the temple to see how the scuplture was set in the temple. He was just about to enter the main gate, the pujari of the temple deliberately stopped him pronouncing "you'e a darji and no entry for a darji!!".Darji without any objection quietly made his way back.

This one of the reasons the Maoist were able to use "racial inequality" as one of the agendas to launch the revolt which you can read in their "40 Point Demands"( submitted to Deuba just days before the start of armed revolt).

None of any other political parties have any agendas based on this issue. I wonder why these poltical parties were mum about this issue when their leaders have seen this disgusting social realites in Nepal for centuries until this day. I wonder why does it take radical leaders like Baburam and Prachanda to bring this issue to mainstream political debate.

I guess Baburam and Prachanda were convinced by the fact that unless the establishment were to be confronted with armed revolt, the establishment was not going to discuss and bring social issue like this one to the mainstream politics and start thinking the ways to resolve these social issues in masses.

In fact, the Maoist revolt was sadly bloody one but it did definately produced some great results as well. Because of this revolt it brought into light some buring but hidden social issues to the mainstream political debate which otherwise would have taken at least next 25-40 years for the establishment to even give a crap about it.

Hi!surendraji,

I think the priest of the Temple should be sent to take moderate class or Priest could be appointed from the Darji family. This is redicul, becasue Dalits build temple, Bahun control
the temple, that Priest was a Dalit what he would thought.

This particular case and I am sure and more others are explicitly bigoted in nature, but such incidents are ubiquitous up and down our ?cast? system. As you go up the ladder all the way to the kings family, the king has also been a ?national safeguard? a treasured sanctity in our socio-religious and political history that still persists, not as explicit but for a greater gain.
The Brahmin guarding the temple does not gain anything but upholds the status, but the king amasses so much, remember the recent 70 times or so increase in royal budget and the Rolls Royce?s? We Nepali people have been the priests to the king and other Netaas all along. Although they seem different, the root cause is the same. First it was the Bhramin priests (originally from India) who made amends with the king (One of the Mallas) who let the cast system prosper, because it was good for both.
Now the system has been installed, it has seeped to all classes without the requirement of an official Bhramin. I am sure Baburam understands this and wants to uproot the whole system so he does not want the King either. He choose Maoism since it was the best tool to rid the problem, too bad, more harm has been done.
