Rabi Goes to India!
Rabi Lamichhane, the RSP chief, is in Delhi for a five-day visit to meet and greet the BJP lads since they have been in power in India since 2014. While our PM Balen focuses on domestic issues and gets pulled into a hawataari controversy regarding the border issues, Rabi is free to mingle with the Indians and hope he does talk some sense to our so-called Big Brothers.
In the past three decades, our chor netas have visited Delhi to either topple their own government or sign deals with each other to topple the monarchy or beg the Indian Babus for scholarships for their own kids or seek other favors while selling our rivers to them for peanuts! And it is because of these netas and their jholeys bending backwards to fulfill all Indian demands that we have been treated like a puppet instead of a partner.
We cannot forget the Indian Blockade of 2015, a few months after the earthquake, and how we had to pay Rs 10,000 for a cylinder of cooking gas and Rs 500 for a liter of petrol in the black market while Oli was busy playing the 'patriot' card and getting some claps from the jholeys.
If Oli were a true patriot, then he would have settled all our border issues then and would have figured out a way to make things easier for the public during the blockade. He didn't do anything, but some of us still think he stood up against India. Well, if you are getting your funds from Oli, then he can do no wrong, right?
Rabi needs to look the Indian establishment in the eye and explain what true partnership actually means. If India thinks it is Big Brother to Nepal, then act like a sibling and not like a bully! Cooperation is a two-way street, and until India realizes that, we will also have a frosty relationship with our chimeki.
I think things are changing now. We don't see the Indian RAW officials or foreign ministry wallahs visiting Kathmandu to get into the bedrooms of Oli, Prachanda, and other chor old school netas. Well, they can't also meet our PM like they meet the local chiya pasal sahujis and that has probably annoyed the South Block.
Our old school chor parties and even some shady folks across the border, are trying to figure out a way to break up the RSP and create a rift between PM Balen and Rabi. If they succeed, then their dream of the same old mili-juli lootera sarkar will come true. Let us hope that they will not succeed, and Rabi and PM Balen will work together and do the right thing for the country. We cannot afford a breakup in RSP like the Congressis or the UML or the Maoists (CUM) chors!
It is time we also straightened out our trade deals with India. We face harassment every few months as our produce gets stopped at the border in the name of some tests, missing paperwork, or new Indian regulations. We import more than US$ 8 billion worth of goods from India and add another few billion imported from third countries via the Indian border.
And while we want to export a few million dollars' worth of tea and other produce, we get treated like we are trying to import uranium. Even if you look at the hydropower sector, we have handed the licenses for major hydropower projects to big Indian companies and they haven't done much in decades. Why hold the licenses if your goal is not to build power plants? Is it to ensure that no one else builds them either?
We treat Indian businesses and tourists with neighborly warmth. They can open their corporate branches, run businesses, and get many freebies, but we do not get the same treatment across the border.
It's time we sit down once and for all and resolve our border, trade, and every other issue that have hampered our road to development because of the obstacles created by our chimeki. In the past three decades, we have made it easy for them to walk all over us, and hope our new government will do its best to hatch out better deals for us instead of always getting shortchanged by our cunning chimeki.
