How many ministries do we really need?

Gagan Thapa's father-in-law, Arjun Narsingh KC, will take his oath on Wednesday as he is the oldest person in the new House. Gagan truly believes in meritocracy and therefore, he has decided to send his honest father-in-law to the House. Mr. KC had close ties with late Kumar Ghaite, our local don, who was killed in a police encounter many years ago.

On Thursday, our other newly elected and PR wallahs will then take their oath from the old grandpa and then RSP will forward Balen's name as their parliamentary party leader after that to follow the due process to allow him to take oath as the Prime Minister of Nepal on Friday.

Our media reports that the RSP will not have a jumbo cabinet like the old political parties had, in order to pacify their coalition partners. RSP plans to have only 15 to 18 ministers instead of the 25 allowed by our constitution. Well, if you add the State Ministers, then the numbers used to be more than 40 during the mili-juli sarkars of yesterday. This time, we expect fewer ministers and hopefully, the sarkari hakims will do their best to help the new government deliver on their promises instead of preventing the ministers from doing their job.

I think in a country like ours, we really need to ensure that we are not wasting our taxpayers' money on providing perks and what not to our politicians and even sarkari hakims. I think it is about time, we put an end to all luxury SUVs for our ministers, hakims and heads of other government agencies. We can do with electric vehicles and a smaller one instead of a big-arse vehicle for a hakim or a mantri.

We really have to do a full audit on everything at all of our ministries from desks to chairs to computers to vehicles. If you go to any ministry, you will find tons of old cabinets, chairs and even rusty vehicles somewhere in their backyard. No hakim has had the courage to get rid of these junk because if they do then the CIAA will come banging on their door and charge them with corruption. Maybe it is time, the new government will open a waste management facility and then recycle all these junk at the facility.

It is about time we ban all foreign visits by our sarkari hakims and ministers unless it is really useful for the country. I think most of our sarkari hakims treat these foreign conferences as vacations where they get a few hundred dollars a day as chiya kharcha and get to relax for a few days away from all the wheeling and dealings back home.

Most of us are expecting the RSP government to do their magic in the first 100 days. I am not but the old media wants to judge Balen and his team within the first hundred days while they have forgotten that this not a coalition government of the past. RSP does not have to partner with anyone to run the show. Hope they will not be like Prachandey and company, who were busy trying to poke their nose somewhere else and got lost in transition.

The RSP wallahs have promised to return all the money to the depositors of failed cooperatives which is near impossible unless the cooperative wallahs are either arrested or their assets are identified and sold off to pay the victims.

And now not only the Gen Zs but even the old political parties are asking for the Karki Commission report to be made public as soon as possible. The Gen Zs want it to be made public because they want to see Oli, Lekhak and those responsible for the massacre to be held accountable.

The old political parties have dared the RSP government to implement the recommendation of the report so that they can shut down the country and do some daang doong and they also want those responsible for burning down the key government buildings and engaged in looting and arson to be sent to jail while they have threatened to burn the country down if their netas like Oli and Lekhak are sent to jail. Maybe, after they have destroyed the public properties, then we can send these bufffoons to jail as well for arson and violence.

Currently, we have like 22 ministries and the constitutional limit is about 25 ministers. If the RSP government can really cut it down to 18 then it's a good thing. Many of our so-called experts have been asking for a leaner cabinet to cut down on waste and work on being efficient rather than just being a place to mint money for the party, cadres, cousins, and their crony con artists.

We don't know the future yet so let us not speculate on what RSP will do or how it will fare or how it will tackle all the problems in our land?... let us wish them all the best and hope they will prove us that they are better than the rest!
