“How can I make sure she doesn't make a claim to my family property or to save myself from as much financial damage. “ —As far I know, based on family experience , you can’t . Nepal’s crappy law makes sure , she can not only claim on your property but also on your parents property and inheritances. Then you have to deal with crappy court system , which favors mostly women in such cases , and god knows how long it would take them to decide.

There is no way you can save yourself from "as much financial damage." However, if you have a minor kid/s, then, you can keep the share of their property to yourself. Telling based on my family experience.
