I was just accepted to a Master's program and want to go to school for the fall semester. I also need to quit my job for various reasons asap. Currently on H1b.
If I quit now and apply for Change of status to F1, will I be out of status for any duration, assuming I can get the i-20 within a month? There is a 60 day grace period per USCIS for changing from h1b to other non-immigrant visas. USCIS guidelines also say that one needs to join the next possible semester upon receipt of i-20.

Looking for suggestions. Thanks.

I don't think you will be out of status as there is 60 days grace period as you mentioned. I wouldn't take chances on these matters, better call lawyer
