Hilarious as always behovee. Yes, indeed Tardiness has become a pride for most of us and don't know for how long it will remain.

A very interesting write...it was little bit all over the place compared to your other creations, but a great presentation of a simple subject matter.

Loved the entire piece, as always, but specially liked the last 3 lines. Perfect.

Now that you have started the war on Chabahil, let's first point out that it's the traffic from everywhere else that congests Chabahil area. We have the Pashupatinath, Ganesh than and Airport in the vicinity which attracts, millions of Kathmanduites (or better known as recently immigrated to Kathmandu) every day. We have the best momo that a diarrhoea can buy and quality garments that don't fade even when hung outside a pasal's door.

While we are at name calling, let's start full-out war. Not sure where you are from, but let me guess the vicinities of Gyaneshwor or Baluwataar, Gyaneshwor- do I need to remind the stench? Baluwataar thinks it is posh but the small roads leading to big houses look like skinny legs on a fat ballerina. Or are you going to say Lainchowr, Kamal Pokhari, Kalimati, Jhamel etc etc? All the same bro, all the same.

We didn't start the fire, it was always burning...

Another masterful piece by the master himself. I wish I had a knack for observing the insignificant day to day stuff and put it into a story. Keep it up!

Very entertaining but I must protest  Gaushala is by far the worst traffic bottleneck in Kathmandu these days. The place has inflicted enough suffering that I can't bear to see any other spot in Kathmandu steal that honor. I think Chabahil  has  improved somewhat after they tore down a few buildings, widened the roads and deployed more traffic cops in the area. Unfortunately, with all the religious and heritage sites in the Gaushala area, me thinks they will need to dig a tunnel to solve the problem there. Then there is Teku of course - the mother of all bottlenecks followed by the Thapathali bridge. Come to think of it, you would probably have to go outside Kathmandu to find a place that isn't a bottleneck during rush hour.

As for being late, it's  part of Nepali social grace.  If you arrive at a party before the hosts, you insult them because you remind them of their tardiness. Some people might even think you need a life if you have nothing better to do than show up at social events, particularly weddings, on time. Ke garne? As they say, if it's an invitation for a wedding, you reach around 6:30 PM if it's winter and 7:00 PM if it's summer. Don't make the mistake of looking at the time on the card :)

Karnali,

I sometimes wonder if they'd do the same had the host been someone else but our southasian clan members, it is not laziness or lack of punctuality, but a lack of common courtesy and taking our own freinds and families for granted.

Idk,

You are spot on. It is, actually all over the place because formatting in sajha has never an easy task, I actually had my story in different chapters and paragraphs but as I uploaded it, it was a little iffy. And again, I do not do a great job of editing, I shall improve.

Kiddo,

I knew someone would lambast me on calling Chabahilites names, and you did it with perfection and enough rationales, kudos for that. I was actually expecting tirades that involves the feminine members in my family. LOL. But like everyone else, you and I could both discern between an inane humor (like this one) and a solemn detest. This was clearly a humor, and you are right, every corner of our great Kantipur has been plagued by uncontainable traffic and lack of cleanliness. The reason why Chabahil came to my mind was because we were always stranded in that nasty traffic on our way to our aunt who lives in Dhumbarahi, everytime.

mnm, alche, halo, rethink and kaji saab,

Appreciate you taking time to read this, and yes, CPT it is, (a)cross the pacfic time fits in aptly too.

Vivant,

Every square in kathmandu where the roads further ramify have bottlenecked traffic. Besides Chabahil, Gaushala, Thapathali, Teku, Koteshwor fall into the same category, and do we still remember the infamous maitighar traffic? I have no clue how I used to merge into the flux of motorcycles and tempos going to New Baneshwore from Jawalakhel.

Speaking of tardiness during such occasions you are right, it is actually a matter of embarrassment if you show in early, both for the host and you as well, but that should change, at least when we are here. I still remember a wedding reception in Dallas earlier this year where a friend of mine was getting married and his boss and colleagues showed up at the venue few hours before the guests started showing up. I am not sure how they felt about it.

Good one as always. Worse than tardiness, I have known some parties that get cancelled in the last minute and the hosts have to leave the house in case someone shows up. LOL!
