@patan & eastsidaz   thanks for understanding and not continuing the argument on this thread.

@ tyrannyoflogic  Well! I can't disagree with you either. EUR/USD just fell off the cliff. Market could be on turmoil tomorrow.

NFLX settled with WALMART for lawsuit of some sort

If u have been a netflix subscriber from 2005 to sep 2 11 , u can get money for it or something ...
u should get the email from OnlineDVDclass.com

In some JAG from buyout rumor which the company acknowledged 7.88 avg ..held it overnight
took profits on RIMM, ugly candle today , good short if it tests the 19.85 area for tomorrow

expecting some relief rally tomorrow but not much...futures positive

@eastsidaz, that VLO short idea was insane...should have taken it myself ...ohh well too late

I am still struggling with SELLING. In this thread I had said earlier I will unload HAL when it corsses 40 which would have given me +9%. It reached till mid 40s and I did not sell it; now it sank to 36 and im in red.
On the good side. I  learned lessen from this and exited as soon as the CMED poped 15% at its earning. Guys what are your selling strategy? Feels like I need to improve on it.

@80s , I think HAL jst made a double top , if the MA line does not hold its going down further. The pattern formed in the last 3-4 days on HAL is a bearish indicator, which is called the inverted shooting star. Verify with other stocks I have called for a short...like RIMM or VLO and look at their charts on stockcharts.com. Your sell indicators are basically inverted hammers on the top of an uptrend and hanging man(hammer) at the top of the uptrend. It usually works 90 percent of the time unless the stock has news or something.

@Kesto Manche.. Good Job buddy, hope u did not lose ur shirt.

@zingo Did u sell ur FSLRs?

@80s,
let me tell u how i would have done it. Hope it will make sense to u.

When i decide to buy a stock, i find a entry price(most of the time it is not a market price) and same time figure out where i want to sell it for profit and loss.

So, my order of buy will automatically have a sell limit(Profit) and sell stop(loss) order with it.
Now, many people who has interest in self-investing here in sajha, have another job to do in stock-market hours so they would not have a time to look how the prices are doing on the day. If u set yr risk parameters like that, u will have some peace in yr work and private life.

When we talk abt HAL, i can see a weekly high of 39.62      4 weeks back. If u have bought yr stocks after that, first assumtion of profit taking would have been 40 as u had thought. There will be some selling on recent highs. so setting 40 as sell limit price wold have worked fine for u.
But here comes the tricky part, u r bullish on yr stock. U changed yr mind and started thinking it could hit its moving day average resistance of 45. Now, what i would have done in this scenario, I would have sold at least 50% of my HAL @ 40 and moved my sell stop for remaining half to my buy price so that if my stock goes down for any reason, i would at least not incur any loss in remaining half. This way, u would have made some decent profit and tested yr bullish hypothesis at same time.

Further, if i have time, i would have seen how WTIC and brent crude pricess are doing and how the broad market is doing.
If u dont want to sell in loss then, u might have to incur  upto 10 -12% paper loss( close to 31) for few weeks but in few months u would be able to sell it with decent profit unless broad market gives up to europe. Street is bullish for energy sector so being bullish on HAL makes sense to me.

@Tyrannyoflogic.  Stockcharts.com seems to be really good site for technical analysis which I figured I lack. I definately see I need to do some more homework in the areas that you mentioned.

@Obama. Your sceanrio perfectly make sense to me. In my case if had followed your method I would have definately walked out with profit. The idea of selling my position in chunks instead of all had crossed my mind but, I guess I became too greedy and got slaughtered. But it was good learning experience.

Thanks guys! Appreciate your input and sharing your thoughts.

Shorts having a ball today...financials heading to the crapper one more time ..LOL might be a good scalp on the long side if they hit their previous bottoms from october(although i seriously doubt they are gonna go that low )

@80s  hammers/hanging man  are really important (at least to me cuz I have seen it work 90 percent of the time)...jst pull up ANY candlestick  chart and find the hammers and the hanging man candles both on the top of an upside move and the bottom of a downside move...u will find it working most of the time ..they give you a pretty good idea of stops too ..on how you should trade the equity
