Guys,

Wanted to go down memory lane. The older guys on sajha must have good memories of when Nepal Television first came to Nepal. I remember that only one of my relatives had a TV at first. And it was such a big deal. At first there was only news and a few hours of television programming.

I was wondering what are the shows you remember?

My memories are of Rama Singh and Durgha nath Sharma telling the news. I still remember the tune when the news started.

The cartoon Barba-papa - this chewing gum looking character with his family...Barba-mama, barba-joe, barba-this and barba-that. Whole family could change shape on command. I think this was one of the first cartoons on NTV. Us kids were highly entertained. Clickety-click Barba click!

On Saturday afternoons, my friends and I would sit down to watch the afternoon show.

Remember Variety Variety -- it was like 'America's got talent.' It was like a circus with people with all kinds of talents.

And I remember foreign shows like--The Professionals (that was my favorite. My cousin and I used to run around with fake guns and pretend that we were the professionals.) Dempsey and Makepiece. The A team. Faulty towers.
Knight Rider...and that show with the super-motorcycle. I forget that name.

And then there were Nepali shows like...damn I don't remember but I remember the character played by Ramesh Budhathoki -- Deepak Thapa. In that character Ramesh Budhathoki used to do this thing with his forefinger that he would rub it under his nose. Wow, that really caught on in Kathmandu during that time. All the kids were doing that. The funny thing was that apparantly whenever any kid saw Budhathoki, they would do that to him and after a while it started to get annoying to him. LOL.

And I remember all the advertisements that used to be made in India. You could tell because they were Indian actors in the commercial but the words would be Nepali. Some of it would sound so odd. Like that Maggi commercial, "Mummy bhok lage chha." (as opposed to 'Mummy, bhok lagyo')

Haha never forget the time when I had to go to the roof every night and shout  "AYO? AYO?" after rotating the antenna pole.

and then maha jodi's comedy as well..when i was really small..

even though i didnot cared old song..it used to show  national songs of gopal yonjan  which now come in my mind...part by part i even started remembering the lyrics ..beauty of the human mind..
i didnot even knew who was gopal yonjan or aruna lama..but some snaps of television come in my mind and it starts remembering,i am shocked how could i do that!
i remember watching mahabharat when we just got television !
many beautiful memories..

i wish i could go back to that life again..uncomparable to the modern generation :)

Anybody remember an old Nepali serial about extra terrestrials? I think there was a rock from outer space and so on. The memory is very vague but if anybody can rekindle it I'd love it.

Gati...that name doesn't sound familiar but I am sure you are right. THanks, much gratitude.
For a while I was worried if it was just a figment of my imagination or an actual TV series I watched.

I have some undying memories about NTV in my hometown. I was in grade 7, I guess when first time NTV broadcasting in eastern part of Nepal was realized. How can I forget 21 stick antenna equipped with aluminum plates on two ends and a booster below erected on a long bamboo pole ? But we fought tooth and nail to get siganls in TV. My dai was appointed to turn the direction of antena and I was there to check the signal quality. Hahaha.....

First movie I watched in NTV was Sindoor (Nepali Nir shah and Biswa basnet I guess). Knight rider was one of my fav series. After few years Top of the pops, Aloo crosses the border in Image channel were my fav programs.

The Dhaal ad " JHILKE DAI CHHA CHHAINA CONDOM...........CONDOM KINA MA BHAE HUNNA RA??" made difficult situation with family sometimes.

Geology tiger, isnt gati abt a boy who finds a rock with magical powers? I used to feel sad to see that boy coz I was told he was an orphan. So I was his fan for his talent. I was 3 or 4 years old.

I remember nepal tv broadcaster saying "aaunus bhai baini haru aba herau euta cartoon" and then Bevis and Butthead is on tv ....someone there thought Bevis and Butthead, being a cartoon show, was meant for kids. and yeah the didn't even cover the MTV logo while broadcasting it.
