There has been a huge hue and cry over voting for Anuradha Koirala. Even Nepali news channels were running scrolling text promotions to encourage people to vote for her solely because she is Nepali. Unfairness seems to be the running trend whenever it comes to voting be it Prashant Tamang or Anuradha Koirala.

In the western world, voting is a basic expression of democracy, but alas Nepalis are still centuries away from learning the true meaning of the word. If CNN finds out the extent Nepalis went to get her voted such as advertisement on national nepalese TV, they would without a doubt disqualify her.

In no way do I have any disrespect towards Anuradha Koirala and I have the utmost pride and respect for her. It's just the way Nepalis play out unfairly in international contests that I find ethically questionable.

Are we Nepalis so destitute and desperate that we have to employ unethical means to put our country's name in the map? No wonder Nepal will always be centuries behind in democracy.

I consider this Nothing but an ironic patriotism of Nepalese, however I hope she will prove to be a real hero and rise above peoples expectation unlike Prasant Tamang in the days to come. in the meantime lets pray we all, Nepalese, will continue to be eligible to cast our vote on this sort of platform.

When the voting started actually the odd was stacked against Anuradha. Nepal being one of the poorest countries, vast majorities of Nepalese do not have computer/Internet access. Rameshwor and his henchmen are basically saying only Nepalese voted for this lady. But I am certain a lot of women irrespective of nationality voted for Anuradha because women regardless of whether they have been victims of sexual assault or not recognize the pain felt by women.
Plain slavery(1) is a heinous crime so are under-age(prostitution) (2) and  forced prostitution(3) and kidnapping(4) . The human beings Anuradha is rescuing are minor girls subjected to cross-border kidnapping and sexual slavery.
Rameswor and his henchmen, do you even get the gravity of the crime perpetrated upon the victims and what Anuradha, a frail lady past her peak age, is doing for them?
If you cannot comprehend then don't even talk about that grand-phrase like "voting with your conscience". You people are unduly insulting the people who voted for Anuradha. I, for one, voted only once for Anuradha. Rameswor, No_Quiro, Jira, etc. I pity your stinking judgement.
Among all the hero nominees, the benefactors of Anuradha's work are crime victims while those of others have the misfortune of being born in poverty. Do you see the difference there?
And yes, I would urge you to refrain from using words like "contestants" to describe all these heroes because you do not make them appear like "selfless social workers".
I am not sure about Prashant Tamang but Amitabh Bachchan being e-voted the Star of the Millennium was quite questionable while Marlon Brando, Charlie Chaplin etc got sidelined because when one-sixth of world humanity live and breathe Bollywood inside the periphery of one country and watch Hindi movies right after they get off from their IT (Computer/Internet) job. Hmmm , something sure is not going right.

mr hyde there are too many contradictions on your post, I don't know which one to point out first.

The greatest thing in this is Anuradha Koirala did not do what she did to become a hero. She did not do it for fame. She did it because she cared for Nepali girls. And for saving thousands of innocent Nepalese girls from the hands of heinous criminals, she deserves to be perceived as a hero.

CNN should have awarded top 10 heroes equally but they decided to make a circus out of this by allowing multiple voting. I mean what kind of serious voting allows multiple voting from same person. It's like voting in kindergarten when you would raise both hands to be counted twice.

Listen you folks, I am not taking away anything Anuradha Koirala has done or is doing. I am a big fan of hers. I am only questioning the whole top hero position voting process. Sorry for the title however because I wanted to get some attention heh. I should have put the title as Anuradha koirala may give the hero title back due to questionable voting. OHHO that reminds me, if I was her then I would divide my $100,000 by 10 and give 10,000 to each heroes because the voting system is garbage - don't flame me for saying this hai this is just my opinion at the current time of writing. Comon CNN, don't play with heroes. I seriously feel CNN should be sued for negligent voting system. At least there should have been one vote per email for it to be an incontestable win.

Just because they have some money, they (CNN) don't have the right to bring together 10 highly respectable people from different parts of the world and put them into a reality TV type of show to increase CNN ratings. They made a circus out of these good folks.

Kudos to her effort to save innocent girls like these

Its 100k for the winner and 25k additional per contestant. But per the terms, this 125k is subject to 30% tax for non-US persons.

Man quit saying the voting was messed up!! you try and make your own damn heroes voting service then you'll have an idea. M tired of defending why voting did not matter.

The thing that mattered is shes doing a good cause and temporarily has the limelight which helps her do her job better, because like it or not, limelight comes with $$, and $$ make the world go round baby.

So happy monday now, quit sulking! (unless its about ur job :P)

Did anyone know how Barak Obama got Nobel Peace Prize? Did he deserve it? At least she has continuously working for past 15 or 20 years. It is not a joke to invest your 15 years for a cause.

Don't forget that non-profit organizations are not taxed. And what's the deal about "quit saying - this and that". Are you some self inflated pompous righteous geek who thinks he has the right to tell others to quit saying things and stop thinking one way or the other?

I don't sulk. I think. I think therefore I am.

Sorry guys, I haven't gone through all the posts in this thread but I want to share my two words with you. I have huge respect for Anuradha Koirala and I am very much happy that she became CNN hero. She is real hero of Nepal as well as the world. I did vote her several times. But at one point I agree with Rameswor, the voting process itself was not promising. But now as she is already awarded hero of the year, let's forget about the system. This is time of celebration and yes we need to back her, support her in her war with crime, war against girl trafficking.

Thanks,

Congratulations to Anuradha Koirala, I'm too proud of her.
Now regarding the ethics, I think it is up to the person to decide whom to vote, why to vote and how many times to vote if allowed. The ethics ends right there, very fairly in favor of the winner, as long as the CNN does not disallow you to do so or otherwise cannot help it in fact just becuase of imparting unfairness. As a voter, you need to make up your mind first what to do, you probably don't want to think of why the voting is there in the first place. You have an option of not voting.

It is completely ethical to vote a million times as long as the voting machine can handle it and the organizer can handle it. CNN knew the situation better than Mr. Rameshor. You must know that there are a lot of people from other countries who voted for another candidate other that Anuradha, the true Hero.

Let us celebrate the vixtory, and if you can help Anuradha to reach again another higher level.

she won, its a good news. Stop being smarta** saying the voting was not fair and blah blah blah.. How about everyone of us including those news media and organizations who helped mrs koirala win this title, actually apply similar effort to stop this crime, raise awareness across our villages, educate our CheliBetis and push the government for strict laws and regulations and regulated border?

These bas**ted marry for couple years, suck the teen beauty have children still bring them to red-light zone for money, they deserve capital punishment and while they know the consequences it will slowly go closer to zero. Sorry for hard comment.

One person effort is not enough and Did  global employment made it more easy for human  trafficking ?

Srijana among all other candidates I sincerely believe that she is the most outstanding hero, saving thousands of girls from a life of impoverished, brutal, forced, slavery and prostitution and harsh life due to diseases like aids.

She is absolutely a true hero.

In my mind the voting process itself is disqualified. Kasto pattur system. It's an insult to all of the 10 heroes to have a system like that to find the top hero. If it was movie heroes then it would have been fine but not for real world living heroes.

Rameswor, your point is well taken. However, why did not you come up with a thread saying that you did not like voting system before she was announced CNN hero? Why only after that?  You may have valid point, but seemingly you are trying to imply " she does not deserve it". Understand that fair play ground was provided to each of the contestants. If one best utilizes the opportunity, that means that person also knows how to fight for the cause. So in my opinion double credit goes to AK and Nepali folks.

Also, irrespective of whether she deserve it or not, as a Nepali, we should even in a worst case should be happy that $125K will be spent in Nepal for Nepali. Understand that!!! So this is not about salvaging false pride of patriotism, unlike in Prashant Tamang case, in which more or less I agree with you. One can not satisfy everyone and be altruist all the time. Your false notion of being altruist is just going over the top at this time and your comparing voting process of Prashant Tamang with AK is completely baseless. Moreover, no matter how much you have tried to clarify your point in your discussion your thread starts with a negative connotation-your using word " DISQUALIFY" is a proof.

Result is out and accepted by everyone and so stop creating baseless controversy at the time at least we very much a divided nation, on a rare occasion, trying to be unite as a Nepali.

Rameswor,
You still did not understand what you wrote the first time; you are way off and totally confused. Read your post again, then reply. That should help you clarify your own situation. You dragged into questions some or all Nepalis. Nepalis did not create the voting system, but once the system is there, they are trying to use it to their best advantage.
Do you want all Nepalis to vote so that some Western guy or Indian wins rather than a Nepali wins? Dude, just realize our country is going down the tube, all of us are sad but at least someone's effort is being recognized in a way that befits the personality. What else do you want as a Nepali in this voting?

In fact the war Ms. Anuradha is waging for so long has just started; it has taken a head-on collision against all those peeps in Nepal and India. It's a blow to Indian authorities who don't hesitate to say they are the largest democracy on the planet (forget about Nepalese Authorities, they are non-existant). This is a wakeup call to the Nepalis, but so much to the Indian Authorities as well.

I think those children who are diying of hunger in Africa deserved that $125,000 better. Anyway it's not worth fighting anymore since AK already bagged that money.

Guys,
Do you still believe anuradha won because of votes casted by Nepali people. Lol at you. Majority people from all over the world voted her so she won, not by multiple voting by Nepalese only.
