madhumati has the gems ... aja re pardesi .... suhana safar .... ghadi ghadi mera dil dhadke ... julmi sang ankh ladi ...(which has similar tunes to a nepali song that my dad often sings "nepali kaa gayo, hamro desh yesai harayo ...american ayo bhani dhwang karayo ...nepali kaa gayo ...) dil tadap tadap ke kehe raha hai aja bhi ja ... and the funny number picturised on Johnny Walker .... jungle mein mor nache kisine na dekha hum jo thoda sa pike zara joome hai re sabne dekha ....

Khabardar, yes, I simply adore SD Burman's songs. Dev Anand usually took SD Burman for his films. Raj Kapoor had Shankar Jaikishen and Dilip Kumar mostly had Naushad.
Old songs have such magical songs by different composers that it's hard to really say which composer was my favorite. For example, the songs of Madhumati were by Salil Chowdhary ... those from Hum Dono (like Abhi na jao chhodkar ke dil abhi bhara nahin) were done by Jaidev ....another song that touches my heart (Lag ja gale ke phir ye haseen raat ho na ho) was composed by Madan Mohan.... and of course, the list wouldn't be complete without the versatile RD Burman (whose songs most people on sajha probably already know ...)

That was funny Nepe. :-) How very cool that you remember the first movie you saw. All I remember is that when we first got a TV and VCR the very first movie we saw was Sholay. Having never seen a TV before, imagine what it felt like to see Gabbar, Veeru and Jai (and of course one of my absolute favorite stars Sanjeev Kumar) performing their madcap antics ....and who can forget the gregarious Basanti.
Speaking of Sawan Bhadon, isn't there a song "Mere naina sawan bhadon" with Rajesh Khanna in it? It has a very eerie feel to it but nonetheless a memorable song ...

I and everybody in Kathmandu never had a chance to watch any movie with Dharmendra in it (due to unspoken boycott of Dharmendra ) until video was introduced in Kathmandu. So "Sholay" had to wait very long to reach to me.
My first movie with Dharmendra was "Ghulami" (watched it on video somewhere in Makhan Tole). A powerful movie. I had never seen Dharmendra before. I was instantly impressed, interestingly, by his simple haircut (no style at all) and his somewhat dark complexion (he looked "worldly" to me) and of course acting before I knew he was Dharmendra (because I did not know who this actor was, so I had to ask my accompanying friend. And I was surprised.).
The song "Mere Naina Sawan Bhado" is from "Mehbooba".
