ok jsut posting a new thread.
there is a mentality in nepal that people think a foreign degree from us,uk,aus or basically is better then the nepalese degree, similar to people having a mentality about science commerce and arts.
i have always wondered why is a foreign degree so much highly rated for professional as well as social purpose.wherever you study be it nepal or be it bhutan or aus ,you have to work hard to get a degree and whatever they teach you , say for example in economics in bhutan ,they teach the same to you in aus as well as us of a.say for example( i dont know about science hai.........) the theory of relativity is same all over the world.
now why do people go to this foriegn lands to learn many of the subjects that are easily available in our country.is it really for the "degree" or is the degree a secondary matter?
well it is understandable for people to go abroad for some very specailized subjects like rocket science or neuclear thing and also for some real high education but for ssubjects that are available in our universities which are as good as any university's program.
also for example say computer science, why not india?casue i think india is as good as any place for computer science if not better but why is every body wanting to go to usa for that !!!!!!!!!!!!!
so i have always wondered is it the foriegn degree people are genuinly pursuing or is it the foreign land???????

let me tell u mahakal, It is possible to finish all these degree within my age range okay if u don't know!! Typing in CAPITAL LETTERS DOESN"T WASTE YOUR TIME if u are really fast in typing get it?? If u think US doesn't accept the transfer degree from third world then check the fact first......... Yes they DO!! They accept it from India. The contrast betweeen our argument is that I am not saying that people who graduate from other countries are not talented but what I mean is that U are comparing US's education system with Nepali which is different when it comes to qualification. If u haven't experienced yourself then how can u say for fact? But I have experienced both ways and can say it affirmly! And by the way, I don't think european think that US degrees are not as valuable. I have many european friends who got their degrees from US and have done darn well!

You don't have to let down other feminist to pull your point across. Politics doesn't always mean only "female" oriented. I am politically involved means I know what goes on society, policies of the government, human rights etc.... Obviously, it's easier to sniff for an experienced person than any other right? Everybody knows that if u have to study computer science, u obviously need a latest computers and softwares (which will be cheaper here indeed....... because it's made here), for medical students...... they practice with the formost and latest equipments.... libraries here can get u a book from all around the world, latest books, world famous professors, researchers......!! You are making a blunt comparision without knowing. Yes it is sad but true that nepal's colleges, libraries, resource center don't have plenty to offer. Remember, there is not even one public library..... where here are world famous giant several storeyed libraries......I am not denying your talent or ability to try hard but what strikes me is that your comprehension off the system is little off!

HAHA!! It's funny to see your reasonings "moneyminded".... It's so damn clear from my statement that I didn't mean that people around the world don't want to study in Nepal because of the "YUVA YUVATI" there but because of the educational system there....get my point?? It's your personal option or opinion that u chose to study in Switzerland may be because u wouldn't even get the US visa!! Going to switzerland is easier isn't it? If u think that nepali youngsters want to stay and study in Nepal then why is there so many "YUVA YUVATI" abroad?? why is there the longest line outside the american embassy always?? Why half of my friends from my town is in US? Why are my friends who are fraustrated there inspite of good degree? Probably u don't know the proper statistics!

If u think, people who come here have to work and study and that's the bad thing then think again. Even though people have to work hard here they earn their own money and pay for their own tuition unlike youngsters in Nepal who are 29 and asking money from dad! Which is better? U grow up and become independent way faster here..And that's the beautiful thing that when u come here whether u are lokendra bahadur's child or a kami's child yes u have to work your butt off to prove u are worthy and can survive. There is no caste system even for nepalese here..... finally. I see a nepali guy with the RANA last name doing the same job as another nepali with lower (what nepalese consider lowest caste )last name. Do u know that when u work and study u will be even more experienced and wise........ u will know how to handle the read world better. So only if u have guts to make your own money and not live your life under your dad's money then u can come here. ARE U AFRAID TO WORK???

Nepalese don't have time to take a weekend break in here 'cause they work on weekends too .....they don't have time to hangout in New road whole day..... And We don't have "JUMRAS" here like u, we take shower every day hahahahah!

and that was my experience so i now may be i might say that i have seen a lil bit of north america too like you have.
and also like your european friends i ahve also known few people ,but not my friends, who studied in nepal and doing good abroad.
and yeah in the technological field us has a modern technology and the students get better access to a lot of thing thats true.but you know what we dont lack behind that much as well except in a very specialized field and i have always maintained that when it comes to those kind of fileds like rocket science yeah we are way behind and there is no doubt on that.
boooks yeah thats strange of you to say you dont get it in nepal.i said to you you go to shanker dev and search some neuclear physics book then you dont that sure otherwise youy should get pretty much what you want of your subject.and now please dont bluff and say that you can get any book of the world in an american library.public library chaina tara a one, british council, american centre blah blha haru cha ni and thats accesible.
and for computer software, in the lighter side, you dont pay $150 for xp in nepal you pay 150 rs.and any any any darn software you say you ll find it and if you can name me any software.and also the price.well it pirated for sure though.
i know you are not denouncing me and similarly i am not doing that as welll.but please

This thread is going too far. Just accept that Foreign degree is better than Nepali degree, with few exceptions. Any one any day would leave Nepal to come to US or UK or Canada for their higher education.
Nepal has lot of potential to catch up, lot of bright kids and teachers, but the education infrastructure needs a big face lift, and its not gonna happen till the political situation is resolved.
After all, lots of Nepalis who are shining in the foreign country got their primary and secondary schooling in Nepal, didn't they?

Look "beachlife" and "Mahakal", if u guys haven't even experienced life abroad and haven't experienced colleges here how can u say these things for fact??? I used to think the same way........realized how different US is! And I am not being "childish" beachlife.......for stating the facts that's true!! And nepali people who go to Europe, they do have to work too for your information! Nepalese in UK yes they do work their ass off....I have friends in new zealand, ,spain, yes they have to work!! And what's so wrong in working and making your own money instead of asking from dad? I don't want to be that childish to ask money from dad even I am capable to pay my own???I would rather work hard myself than letting my dad work hard for my education!!!

Well "mahakal", even though I am busy..... answering to this thread doesn't take that much time does it? If u think canadians don't accept US degree then why flock of canadians come to US colleges and work here. Why not stay in their own country? I have known so many canadian doctors who rush here for jobs........why is that? Better opportunity and prestige! And for your chinese friends....... "university of southern california" is okay school...............having a degree doesn't guarantee a job u silly! U have to look for it, do networking, know how to look for job. Yes job market is competitive but one should know how to look for it. It is rather silly to work in a liquor store .....even a person with a minimum techical education from anywhere(let's say not USA) can grab a job of an technical administrative in a good office!!

I have been to British and american council in Nepal...... no way u can get all the books u want like here. U are kidding right?? Your sankar dev college doesn't have that either. Are u comparing them with world famous libraries here then u haven't seen the libraries here.....even though u say u have been to north america. U have no clue dear! It's amusing to see u compare these!

The resources here are definitely vast...if u really want to study computer science yes u can do that with freaking manual or a book but what goes in universities here are not only computer training but board educational reasearch on technology itself. The proprotion of time spent on research, training, administrative are much more. Faculty members at universities normally spend a significant part of their time doing research. Every now and then actual people who make these softwares or applications from IBM, MICROSOFT, MACROMEDIA etc come and give u the whole perspective and also u have an opportunity to do internship in a big technological companies .......which is a must before u work. Now I doubt that Nepal has that kind of facilities! I don't think Nepali colleges even require internship!!

We just don't go to school and train technically but we do learn about broad liberal arts education which is mandatory and therefore u get way more than just technical skill. The federal, state and local governments have invested a great deal in policy development, research and training, all of which benefits the entire economy. Corporations and private institutions also play an important role, by needing more qualified workers and by funding laboratories, research, and study. Faculty, researchers and corporate CEOs have joined together to become leaders in fields such as technology, communications, medicine, astronomy, and engineering etc. Now I don't think Nepali government has that much money or willingness to spend on education! Last year alone 500,000 foreign students came to study in US. Why all these CEOs from Japan, UK, Russia come here to study further? Why all the royalties from all over the world send their kids here??why??

And about the jumra issue...... we meant "nepalese in USA" not americans!! that was a reference for typical nepali women gossiping together.....that u pointed to me earlier! well I don't think u should compare that way! Yes, no doubt people in villages and in KTM have jumras....... everybody knows that....... are u ashamed? And it is a fact that there is no lice problem with whoever lives in USA!! The whole point was to make my point to your previous link that yes I don't have to time to gossip like that and look for jumras and we don't have one!! U don't have to lecture me on where I came from but yes I have learnt one or two good things from here to take a shower daily!!!!!!

School I went to have a branch in Lux, a lot of kids go there for a sem. and party all over Europe. Europe is so accessible, yet different culture, people and food. We lack it big time here in the US. Some foreign people who migrated to the US talk big like they have seen the world for just being in the US. Besides few cities like Boston, NewYork, DC, LA, SF, Chicago, Atlanta, and may be few others, US is culturally and ethnically boring as hell.

Hey beachlife, you have seen more 'gf' than sweetipie? j/k

"Beachlife" and Bedrock if u (Beachlife) have seen europe then don't assume that I haven't seen it , u are silly! Yes, I went to France(love especially south of france), Italy, Germany and Spain! Plan to go all over Asia and south america next year. U think only u are the all-rounder. And u are bragging about your GERMAN GF ............guess what I have an american husband!! So obviously don't try to assume other people's life!!

And for u bedrock, don't think that u find america boring means that everyone finds it boring!! U are first person who find ethnically diverse place boring...... except for some white people!!! It's the only country in the world with such a diverse community and I am loving it! U don't have to go to a different country to experience it, u can find it in your backyard!! Yes, it's fun to explore during vacations browsing different countries (which I do all the time) but u learn so much about each other's culture just by living here!! Yeah it's easier to hop into another european country through train which is nearby but here too u can go to mexico, canada, carribean, etc.. It's just few hours to europe so u can go whenever u want! What's the big deal?? If u haven't been to other countries and only been inside US then don't think that everybody does the same!

well since now you saying me silly and stupid i can say that now you are bigmouohthing for sure.you know what you can keep you "i am in america" attitude for your self cause nobody gives a big f@#k abou it.you are the same as any ktm girl but yeah with a big bulllsheeeeet attitude.dotn freaking boast about being in america.the most you have seen or sone thatn a ktm girl is seen a skyscraper, subway and mcdonalds and nothing more that that.
yeah you have seen candain docs coming to america but it not the the other way.americans need doctors and canadians a re supposed to be the best.they come to us cause htey want to stay there not becasue the candain american sducation is superior .having a degree is not enough for getting a job thats true but see there too like in nepal you need to butter dont you.
nepals computer thing is also not doing bad.i know its not as advanced as usa but its in noway doing any bad.internship is a part of the course for computer science but you doubt about nepal well your doubt dont mean there is no internship program.ofcourse there is no companies like microsoft or apple but computer is all about creativity and i dont think microsoft or any other company has a patent/trademark right on creativity.well but i know it as well it is great to be under microsoft and dont tell me microsoft or any other companies provide internship to each and every school of us a .
ofcourse us a is better thatn us in computer science thats a simple fact but computer technology is jsut emerging in nepal and i never denied we lack in technology.
you say about different people coming to the us for studeis which is true.but is it for better education i say heck no.it is becasue it is "america".japs, russ etc yeah they come there fr english and may be other reasons that i am not familiar with.500000 or smth came to the us do you think thema ll came for better education or smth, you ll find a heck lot not going to school and eying the greencard.people come to america for the famous "american dream" not for better education.now please japs come there but wehat do you think they lack in technology or smth.a simple cell phone japs are using right now you ll see that after 3 yrs in america so quit that.
the guy sadly had to apply in a liqourstore but alas all the people are not as rich as you.he was asked to upgrade his skill in a candaina schoool ,mind you that was gpa 3.8 in msc,now you tell me what is that.the greatest american education ??????????????now everybody cant afoord to go to a harvard or a princeton ,like may be you???????

jumra isssue: i dint lecture nothing about your family but I AM AMUSED TO KNOW THAT YOU WERE A JUMRI LIKE YOUR FAMILY IN NEPAL AND ARE NOT ASHAMED OF IT.IF I WAS YOU I WOULD BE ASHAMED OF IT.
may be you had/have a skin disease that got/gets you jumra if you dont take shower daily.i take a bath twice or thrice a week but never had a jumra problem although in nepal.now as i said earlier i would be ashamed unlike you.

Sweetiepie-
you didn't even read my posting carefully and blamed me for something i didn't said. i live in one of the places i mentioned because i find it culturally and ethnically diverse. anyway, you are just addicted to this Sajha, just admit it. Its worse than getting hooked on crack, you feel like you have to defend each and every posting of yours and get the discussion going.

Look at the thread carefully mahakal......... who started the jumra topic ,okay dear before u comment!!Bedrock I am the only one defending the foreign degree in this thread and arguing against all of u!! Hell yeah I am addicted and so u are!!

I am not going to deal with these nonsense you "mahakal" bring it on along with the foreign degree issue. Cutting to the chest, Who told u that canadians are the best doctors than US?? Check on that okay! And about the microsoft and other companies, the perspective they provide is vital to a modern studies.....they don't provide internship to every school but u have to have internship in most schools to get a good job here! And u admit that there is not enough technological advancement then why are u comparing and arguing all this time? It's it clear the educational system has to be same in order to be comparable?? Professors are more experienced because they spent most of their time in research and government actuallly spents heck a lot for education research. It isn't only for technological advancement, it's for other field too!

Yeah some from the 50000 students may came here for green card but lot of them come here just for the degree and go back!! I think your chinese friends need a little networking (and networking doesn't mean family connections to get into an office)!!And keep your jumra discussion to yourself!!

Comparing degrees is very subjective, however, having saind that degrees earned in western countries sell more than from so-called third world countries including Nepal. Moreover, western countries have been able to innovate new courses, learn from other culture and teach in their nistitutions. For example, these days western universites are teaching Sun Tzu's strategies of war (borrowed from Chinese). University of Texax, Austin teaches Nepali language in their undergraduate course. Historically, cutlure of powerful countries have been more important than culture of poorer countries (military, economic, hegemonic etc).
Degrees from those countries are part and partial of their culture.
I don't know much about, however, thought to say my two paisa's worth.
