I totally understand business. But business can be done without lowering oneself, community or nation. This is a case of compromised national value and very much the reason why rest of the world profiles Nepal and Nepali as low esteem nation. I am not against the name 'India', but I very much loathe how the name says 'India's Nepal'. India does not own Nepal. Why we Nepalis ourselves telling the whole world that we belong to India ? Very pathetic sensibility of some of my countrymen.

I am not interested in creating a riot either. I am just spreading the word so that we collectively can create the restaurant owner ethical pressure to change the name with not misleading connotation involving our country's name. I have reached out to the restaurant manager and given my message. Realized that my voice alone is not enough to make them change their mind. That's the reason I am appealing all nepalese on sajha to create a collective voice to give a bigger message to the owner. I am not against any individual with regard to their personal views about country, nation and patriotism. I know what is right on my part that I can contribute and think this is the least I could do. No offence at individual level to anyone on the statements I have made. I am presenting things in generic terms to reflect direction that mass population has taken in the past and what is being followed now.

If you are concerned about the name, give the restaurant a call or email them. If not, take it easy, you are not very much interested in objective of this thread !!

I don't understand it fine...but can you break it down for me...at least what is it that you find so offensive and hard to chew about that restaurent's name? what will you say to the restaurent management? Don't get me wrong here ...I would very much like to hear your side of what makes that name sound so offensive to you?

The very literal sense that the name reflects..'India's Nepal Oven'. Nepal is a country's name, not a product or idea that can be used after another country's name with an apostrophe 'S'. This could be just a grammatical blunder, but it's costing a lot of recognition for us among many people who visit that restaurant. I work at a place where I am the only nepalese and everyday I try my best in whatever way possible to make others respect that fact and put the country in global map. Every day, hundreds of people visit this restaurant and gets an impression that Nepal is a part of India that they were assuming to be a different country.

Will it make an American depressed or do Americans tourists feel prideless when they see a fast food restaurant opend at Thamel called Nepal's Aemrican Burger????? Who cares??????? I have seen so many sign-board written in Nepalese in India  than Hindi written sign boards in Nepal. Don't forget Dargeeling, Sikkim, Kharsam, Meghalaya in India.

It's not the name, it's the context on which the name is written that I am concerned about. All the sign boards you have seen probably don't give the impression that India owns Nepal. This one does. That's what the difference is.

I am very much surprised to see how could a nepalese defend that name so much ? Could you imagine a restaurant with a title 'Nepal's India Oven' owned by an Indian or 'Canada's America Oven' owned by an American ? Nobody else except some of we nepalese can lower ourselves to that limit.

I think we nepalese are great that we can let the whole world ridicule our existence and laugh at us with them.

Jhigatighare, What do you say about 'Jai Nepal' sari show room in Raxaul, India, this shop is around for more then 30 yrs. And getting good business from Nepalese, who shop there just because of name but don’t realize they azz being f*&ked by dhoti.
I thin this restaurant owner chose this name to get business from Indian, what’s wrong with that? If you have to chose one,  Which one do you choose Jai Nepal in India or India’s Nepal oven in US?

Based on owner's website, they changed the name from "India's Clay oven" to "India's Nepal oven". It makes sense about the meaning of India's clay oven but what does this mean Nepal oven of India???? I am really confused. If you want to attract everybody, why dont you put the name "American Mexican Italian India's Chino Nepal Oven"? Everybody would be interested. This is shame.

Anyway I am writing mail to their contact person contact@indiasnepaloven.com  and let them know about this thread.

That name does not even make sense...yawll are stretching it too far and seeing it negatively....to each their own but there is no reason for you all to call him/her lowlife or unpatriotic or pro indian based on that silly thing  .... restaurent ko menu ma indian khana ni bechya chai ki traitor le? herya ho? ask him to change that too and tell him how to run his business the Nepali way while you are at it.....

I don't know why, but this conversation is reminding me of a story I had heard as a kid:

Once upon a time, there was a small fire in the area around Dharara and the shop keepers from around Dharara went shouting, "There is a fire, there is a fire! Our livelihoods are about to get burned. Please help us." The people from New Road came and brought water but could not put it out. They needed more water, but the shop keepers from Assan smiled wisely and said, "that is not our problem," and would not give any water.

The fire blazed higher and spread all over New Road. Now bricks and buildings were up in a blaze. People jumped out of windows, trying to save their babies and their goods. The people from New Road said, "There is a fire, there is a fire! Our livelihoods are about to get burned. Please help us." They needed more water, but the shop keepers from Assan grinned coolly and said, "That is not our problem,"
But the fire didn't stop. It spread and spread. Now Assan toll with all of its shops, art and architecture and family heritage that had been there for centuries started turning black with smoke with fire leaping atop of buildings. You could smell the burn all over Tundikhel. Priests from Swayambhu could see the black smoke from the fire making large clouds of ash and dust in the center of Kathmandu. Finally, the shop keepers from Assan, seeing what was coming at them started crying all around "There is a fire, there is a fire! Our livelihoods are about to get burned. Please help us put out this fire."

But by now the fire was bigger than anyone could put out. So the people from Dharara, New Road and Assan just watched all their life savings, history, and wealth go up in smoke in front of them.
One guy from Dharara turned to a weeping shop keeper in Assan, and putting his hand around the guy's trembling shoulder to comfort him, said: "Don't cry, friend. It is not your fault. Since it was any one person's problem, now it has become everyone's problem."

@dallas7
I think you didn't get my message. I am not against use of 'India' or 'Nepal'. This restaurant is serving Indian food, so 'India' definitely makes sense. I am against the use of Nepal in wrong context. Can't u make out such a trivial difference ? Why the hell are you talking about all other blah blah ? It's fairly simple, if you are concerned about that name, go ahead and do what you want to do to release your itch. If not, don't make a scene here shouting all irrelevant junk....relax and get off the thread. If you have some constructive feedback, you are welcome, otherwise start a different thread to present your nonsence.

Like i mentioned before did you tried calling the owner ? I don't see your reply about that . Give it a shot and see what owner has to say then go ahead bashing him everywhere i don't like such things too but i don't care cause there are  bigger issues to think about right now .

But it would be good if you can waste same time to talk with owner :)

Dear Tuner, I did that already. Now the owner doesn't even talk and has a White assistant take care of the calls who doesn't have a clue of what the hell we are talking about. The owner is like 'Ignorance is the best virtue'.

See if owner doesn't gives shit about this issue what's use of bashing each others over this thread ? I know you all care about your country and might feel proud due to various reasons but simply when owner doesn't cares about it there is nothing anyone can do about it .

If the owner would care, he'd not keep that title in the first place. That's exactly the reason we need to raise voice to make him care...coz that name is not his private asset...it's our country's name...and we do care about it. If you are trying to find a respectful exit strategy from this issue as you are tired of looking at this thread.....go ahead and have fun. I will keep on writing.

jhigatigare-- It is really unfortunate that the young people think being patriotic doesnt make sense for people coming from poor countries like Nepal. In their heads, it appears that pride and dignity in one's nation equals not listening to music of other cultures, enjoying other cuisines and liking other people's arts and cultures.

Our sovereignity and national pride for being a nepali doesn't mean we must stop eating indian food, just as much as we don't stop eating mexican food or chinese or american for that matter.

However, Yes, indeed, I am very offended by this restaurant's name because why on earth would someone call their restaurant their business naming Nepal as a possession of India--what on earth is India's Nepal Oven-- sounds like Bharat ko Nepali Chulo?? Doesnt even make sense!!!

May be he is trying to hint that the food served is both Indian and Nepali, but clearly, the owners do not speak English well or they just dont knwo what message they are giving.

Anyway, I want to emphasize to our arrogant and somewhat ignorant kids who come here and work for indians, that despite working for indians, you can still be proud of to be a nepali..and when you are capable of doing something better for urself like having ur own restaurant, please, make us all nepalis proud of you.

If Indians stopped with the mentality that being ruled by the British took away their desire to be free, they themselves would have never attained independence. Just because our current situation is poor and needy doesn't mean we sacrifice every bit of our pride and hope for the future. Please don't think pride and dignity are only for the rich few or the indians themselves...there is a lot we can still be proud of---for example our mother Nepal allowed most of us a space to be born and allowed opportunities to come to US or elsewhere..We must always be proud of who we are even if our fate has us working in an indian restaurant or a gas station.....................

Why don't you go in the restaurant--and talk to the owner--tell them you wanna cater their food..and politely ask what kind of name is his restaurant's and offer some other alternatives....!!! There are plenty of Nepalis restaurant in Denver-boulder area and none this offensive...infact, I was pleased to know that the city of boulder even carries out Nepal Day Rally in April...This fool should be aware of this and the impact and offense it can cause to other fellow nepalis and friends of Nepal living there....

I will tell you what why don't you print this thread highlight each post where people have protested against  him . Make few more copies of the print and go to restaurant hand him and few other nepali customers whoever are eating over there.

Also try finding out few nepali organization around that location and see if you can get those people to talk with this owner if you are serious about it .
