A girl getting married to a man residing in foreign country, earning in dollars or pounds is being a very major concern of our Nepalese society. Its a kind of fashion growing up in our culture. Parents are so much fascinated when they receive such marriage proposal for their daughter. They are on the seventh heaven thinking of their biggest dream coming true. Every parent dream of their daughter getting married to a very gentle, educated, and rich guy from a reputed family. They make quick decisions at the very moment without thinking the consequences of the marriage. They neither bother asking their daughter nor even try to make enquiries regarding the guy. They find their daughters being very lucky for her changed fate after such proposal. But the convergence of such dream into reality can make your life fragile.

what I really understand about girls is why the heck are they trying get something called " security" which is something that doesnt exist at all.

The worse of all, why the heck do they try to get it from someone else by getting married. Cant they get it by themselves if they really belive that such a thing called "security" exists.

A very interesting article indeed. But I cannot help but comment on the fact that the article can be looked at with two different perspectives. If this article was written to create awareness among the blind people who think that the only way of having a good future is by marrying off their daughters to men in the foriegn land; then I give my thumbs up to the Astitva team. I know for a fact that a lot of men go to Nepal and get married to the girls there due to the force by their parents. Obviously a wrong reason! The feelings dont exist, and things might get pretty bad. And we also have to see that the style of living in the US might come as a shock to the people in Nepal, that can be overcome though.

But, I think I have to raise a finger to the fact that the way they have presented the article does not do justice to all the men who are in the foriegn land. The article sort of presents the view that all men in the foriegn land are characterless, two timing cheaters. The message is not clear, I mean instead of saying that marrying off your daughter in the foriegn land has negative effects I think the article should have adviced people to do a thorough background check on the guy before tying the band.

Things such as multiple marriages and bad habits can be tracked down in an instant. We DO live on a nosey society that keeps track of all the moves we make. And also, the girl should have a 100% say in the decision.

hmm... Grading huh? I would prolly give t hem a C-. I agree that the Astitva team should seriously think of hiring an editor. I mean it is just not any of us giving our views on certain issues. It is a formal NGO organization trying to create awareness, and they should at least look at the grammatican mistakes that they make. Also at many instances, the point they are trying to prove is not so clear. An important thing about writing an article is to have some writing skills. If we did not need any of those every X-Y and Z would be an author, journalist and so on.

What said Rhythm covers the astitwa article in brief. But mine grading would be F because the presentation is very very poor. It seems the author is trying to show his/her jealousy over ameican-nepalese instead of the characters of the story. And the story has a vague message. Author is not sure what he/she wants to present.
