I always get this huge temptation to write when there is some politican “uthalputhal’ in Nepal. Call me critical or politically inclined I have my own say for the much talked Modi visit to Nepal.

Couple of months back when Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister of India, I had written a thread about how he has his agenda’s set and what all he did for the state of Gujarat when he was the Chief Minister. Even then also I said this is a man of agendas and ambition. Having such a visionary leader, India still has a lot of problems to be solved. It is not a days or a week’s work that it will drastically change and all the problems are solved.

Similarly when he was in Nepal, he made sure that his presence is felt in a positive way. Trust me, this guy is very smart. He did his home work thoroughly and indeed I am impressed. He is the first dignitary to address the House of Parliament of Nepal, after the restoration of Democracy in Nepal. It is definitely very flattering to see him address the house in Nepal, and all the MPs and the crowd watching the live telecast were wowed when he started his speech in Nepali. But how many of us have questioned the agenda behind it?

Is he trying to impress and woe the people of Nepal? Is he really a friend to Nepal? What will India benefit from this visit? He said he is not only going to generate electricity but also buy it from Nepal and not take it for free, is there any hidden clauses that we don’t see? There are a lot of unanswered questions buzzing around.

I see a sudden change in attitude of most of the Nepali people. Suddenly they have this soft corner for the Indians. Dhoti term has changed into Friend. Honestly it will only take another statement by one of the Indian people and then we will have all bandhs and hadtals in the protest of it. Going a little deeper, it looks like a big brother giving lollipop to his younger sibling and taking away his toys and stuff. And this younger brother is happy with the lollipop.

No I am not being cynical but just analysis which our politicians lack at times. Even their own advisors (baristha Sallakars) can see it but I guess in a long term there is not much Nepal can do on its own. If he is man of his words and gives the support of 10000 crores and buys the electricity from Nepal, hopefully we will be progressing on the footsteps of Bhutan.

By the way the funny part is , Mr. Prime Minister of India had promised so much, and had given so much of sugar talks and there is this bunch of people who could only hear Buddha was born in Nepal CONFIRMED and argue on the fact that Nepal is not a state of India….How insecure can we get than this??

Nope.....never would I rate your pieces B as I know they are A-listed,enjoyable to read, lively and having many colours of wit--including this one--which I liked abundantly.I tried to reply the post and wrote sumthin but I erased it,then I wrote it again from another view but then again(as you guess)I skip it.And also, you have exhibit all the Modi's terrain beautifully and unmask him agreeably so much so that I became static to further proceed.

"Modi-fying Nepal"... Liked the title.
From the words of Modi, seems like India is willing to help Nepal. Now its up to us, what to ask for?

What would happen if role were reversed, our prime minister talk in Hindi in India, Nepali would call him a traitor. I watched Modi's speech, at least it gave me positive thought towards India. I don't see any negative comment from Indians about Modi's Nepali speech. There is a saying, "don't just give, invest". So Nepal need an investment where foreigners build our infrastructures and train us how to utilize them. Giving 1 billion dollars would be a big pie for corrupted politicians.

Nice one!

I got a mixed reviews , by people present here in Sajha, while there were plenty who were happy that he came and said so many things that would lead to a brighter future. All promising indeed!

All in all, I think, only time can tell...

We Nepalis don't do a jack; and when someone is telling us that we have potential to do things we question and question and add few more to it and at the end of the day nothing happens.

We need to break this cycle of questioning and sitting idle.

The reason RNAC (now NAC) has not bought a single Boeing or Airbus in past 28 years is because every time we just question....

We have the right to question and we do the most we can do.....
About NAC....lets be honest that it was because of the corruption inside the organization

Ambrosia, Yes - you are right; we should ask. But we can't be skeptical of everything.

Like Nike commercial, we need to - "Just do it".

We can change our friends\girl friends if we don't like them any more; But we can't change our neighbors. We have to work with them.

If India is coming to the realization that it cannot achieve its foreign policy goals by interferring in the internal affairs of neighbouring countries so arrogantly as it has done in the past, that would be a welcome start. It certainly looks as if Modi is much different than his predecessors. We should give him the benefit of doubt. He is the first prime minister to visit Nepal in 17 years and declared mending the relationship with the neighbours as his main foreign policy agenda. He seems to be a man of his words if you look at his track record. He is a man with some vision. He can see that India can achive its regional security goals only if it builds some credibility among the neighbours. He is helping us to help India. Only time will tell how it will play out. Having Gandhis in charge of Inida would make us much worse off.

dhoti is called for reason not just for appearance and you were somehow brilliant to question his motive better than most sheeple nepalis ( i think they were overwhelmed  with Indian PM  acknowledging " buddha was born in nepal") in that historical moment. of-course he doesn't want free electricity (who would give him free these days in this global market duh!!) but this is what I wanted to shriek when everybody was praising him and now somehow coming true when you analyse the demands to lift current economic blockade. sorry it's in nepali I hope u can read it ; http://kantipur.ekantipur.com/news/2015-10-06/20151006082009.html
