When i was a kid (or when i was in Nepal), i used to believe in God. I did however have reservations on religion but i still believed in God. Its been a year in US now and having met people from other cultures, the existence of a supreme being doesnt make sense anymore.

I think that believeing in GOd instills in a person faith, confidence and positivity to get through good times and be appreciative of the bad ones. I want my children to have these qualities so i dont want to tell them that GOd doesnt exist. Moreover, i cant imagine what my parents/relatives will make of me when i talk to them about this. It isnt going to be pretty.

It does give me great discomfort to think about all this. I must admit i feel less confident and more pessimistic these days. I want to believe in God but my logic doesnt give in anymore. In fact, i get irritated when i hear things like "God COMMANDED you to.." "GOd will PUNISH you if..", "We are SERVANTS in from of Him" "(on Christianity): "Jesus died on the cross for you"(THere are many who have made a similar magnitude of sacrifice).

I think that God and religion are ancient theories that havent been discarded yet. And it hasnt due to the fear in people of what might happen if they didnt. One of my teachers once said "if there is no god and you believe in god, there is no harm but if there is god and you dont believe in god, there is harm". i feel this and cultural and social stigmas lead people to be religious and not question their beliefs.

I wanna know what you guys make of this.

Why do I need to bring up these topics in a thread, Geology Tiger? Are you not a Nepali? Why have you not brought up these topics before? Do these issues not concern you?

@ nayanepalibabu,  your logics thrown at are hilarious. I would assume if someone claims all those things you've listed and dares to prove him/her wrong?? Yeah, I can prove him/her wrong:
Solution: Stop smoking POT. chapter close !!! ;D

@babal khatey : that joker thing wasn't for you. That was for someone else.

Dear Father Bitter Truth,

Daddy, religion is also in you. Just look inside you, Papa. Is that answer satisfactory to you?

Ladies and gentleman, the greatest philosopher and scientist of the world...and this is the best answer that he can give. Taliya...taliya!

babal khatey, I don't think I'm a smart one, because smartness is extremely relative term. Hope you get that or I'll translate it in Nepali if you don't understand, just ask me ? no pun intended

BitterTruth,

This thread is about 'Philosophy and the basis of Truth'. Would love to see more on it, than you yapping out on about 'son' and 'ESL' crap because you can't come up with rational answers. would appreciate if you would start you blah blah biah in new thread.

I never understand, why ppl talk unrelated stuff in threads. I'm an admin to other forums, I move them to new thread without a question.

BitterTruth, maybe you should move your @ss to another thread, since you can't come up with a rational answer to back up your stance.

Geology Tiger, why don't you tell this parasite to focus on the topic at hand.

Chaurey,

We appear so dumb because you haven't educated us with your smart answer. I'm still waiting for it.

I can understand why BitterTruth can't come up with the answer. His Truth tastes very shitty--that is why it's so bitter. Didn't you understand that when he said that the truth is deep in his gut?

But what's your excuse?

Since this thread doesn't seem like it's going to be used for any other useful purpose....unless there are any more philosophers and scientists on this thread who need to discuss "philosophy and the Basis of Truth"...is it ok to discuss Nepal's future on this thread?

Does anyone have any complaint to do so?

Geology Tiger,

My truth is my identity. My identity is that I am a Hindu Nepali. Would you like to discuss more specific details about how you could help me to live out my truth?

Babal Khate,

It's not that I am trying to avoid you. I know you are one of the talented writers in Sajha and like you, I also have huge respect for you. But what I was trying to tell you is you are off topic in this thread . However, some issues you have put in this thread are still important and worth discussion. So my suggestion was to start new threads with those topics. You look little frustated here in this thread while bittertruth and chaurey are enjoying the conversation. That's why I requested you not them to save your energy and put on productive discussions.

Thanks,

Geology Tiger,

I am happy that you understand how I feel.
I am confronted with problem after problem which ever way I turn when I look at Nepal. And I don't have the power or authority to make solutions happen. That is frustrating.

How do you avoid feeling frustrated?

Chaurey,

I am glad that you have finally understood how I feel, brother. Thank you. Yes, I too am haunted by images of my Mother Nepal, like you.

Why do we all need to be forced to give up our love and the depth of the emotion of what we feel to what we hold sacred? Why should we be forced to be "cool" enough to have to jump on the latest "trendy" bandwagon that is simply making some MTV executive wealthy? Why are we Nepalese painted as barbarians just because we wish to hold unto what we hold to be sacred...what our parents, grand-parents and our ancestors held unto as sacred for so many years?

Some people say there is no easy answer. Why do they say this? The answer is easy.

Let me give an analogy: Think of Mother Nepal as one tree in a jungle full of many different trees. Think of the Jungle as the United Nations.

The answer is that we all need to find, search and hold unto our roots. For those who lose their way, and cannot find their own roots will find themselves lost in the canopy of the jungle where all leaves, twigs and branches mix. And there my friend, you will not know what tree that you, the leaf, belong to. And as much as all the trees, branches, leaves, twigs and buds make up the jungle, remember, that you are but a leaf. You are but one leaf. A specific leaf that is nurtured by a specific branch. That branch is attached and fed by a certain trunk in that jungle. And that trunk is a part of a certain type of a tree. And that tree's roots go deep deep inside the soil to bring nutrients to the trunk. And that trunk feeds the branch. And that branch in turn feeds the specific twig that you the leaf are hanging off of... in the breeze, sunning yourself.

But in the modern day and age, I realize that I have forgotten all of this. I have gotten so carried away with celebrating the oneness of the jungle...that I, a Nepali, have forgotten the specific tree that I belong to that nurtures and sustains the unique individual that I am. It is this tree that has sustained the identity of my parents and grandparents. It is this tree that had fed and nurtured and made my ancestors proud. It was through this tree that the Hindu spirit came to life in the jungle.

But we have forgotten all of this. Everyone wants us to simply lose our identity and individuality and merge in the blended mushy juice that is MTV culture. And that is bullshit!

Each individual tree needs to be appreciated and fed on it's own account for us all to enjoy a jungle. I am responsible for my tree. And you are responsible for yours.

What is the difficulty in understanding that?

Brother Chaurey, do you agree with what I am saying?
