Vox Pop
With the deadline for the US 2008 DV Lottery approaching, Nepalnews asked people their opinion on it:

“I am not really interested in so called DV lottery system, because no one knows where the US government will settle us. As far as I know, they will send us to a small town and will not treat us like their citizens too.”

From Nepalnews.com

hahaha really stupid answer,
its not us gov that gonna sent u to any place, u can choose any state u want

And you wonder why people in Nepal cannot respect democracy. They have to know what democracy is, in the first place.

jatha chittha haru ,
probablity of winning lottery is inversely proportional to the intelligence of the applicant.

or, the more dumb you are the more you likely to be a dv winner .

or, Stupid= dv Winners

And after poving this theory i received A grade in my physics class.

Bakbas...ho yo... We are living in the Nepalese society. USA is far different than Nepalese society and culture....I know, most of Nepalese want to settle in USA....they find themselves is winner if they got DV....but reality is far different...internally they never satisfied.........So, i don't want to apply DV...and never want to settle anywhere in different country..........

Talk the reality,,,,,, look the DV people living USA. They are much frustated: neither they get paid over $7.00/hrs, nor they are happy living in US. They think that DV is like a hot potato(tato aalu). INGO officer, section officer, professors and other karmarchari or educated people are seem much frustation. Doing piza delivary, struglaing with badmas Kale in gas subway, or saying ji ji to dhotibhai,, how long you can go? US goverment doesn't take any response regarding your living or fooding, don't lie or deceive to people of Nepal who don't know what is all about USA. I am living in USA, but I always telling the truth, I am planing to explore the fact once I will be in Nepal, however you give selfbooting(aphai mapai ra thulo thulo gaf lagaune haru) to your friends, family and relatives, PLZ tell the truth!

Dyammm Yamraj, for the first time in sajha in years i have met someone who shares my belief. Exactly, most Nepali people lie about their living situation in the USA. Lie about their status. What they say is how much they make , in dollars. They never say how much they have to spend in dollars to live here.
Only some people that are happy are engeneers, docs, and someone who has a decent job. Who has accomplished their degrees here and have enough work expirence. Dv winners , specially in their mid 30s and 40s lack opportunities to prosper.
First of all, they think that their english sucks; they end up in dhoti gastations. Usually in night jobs. Or in a factories where they work like machines and do not talk with their co-workers. Now they do make 1200 to 1600 a month. And their wife too. But after the rent, car payment, insurance, food, utilities they probably save few hundred dollars a month, if they save any at all.
Students, life is horrible. They work, live, and get tortured like slaves. Only difference is salves were not scared with INS but the Nepali students are.
shit... tell the truth everyone.. thanks Yam for telling the truth..

I agree with avii,
no one should blame anyone. People should understand, winning DV lottery doesn't mean you'll have a good job, good life, all it means is you can come to US, live here and work. Whether or not people find jobs, have good lives depends on individual person. Its true that there is more opportunity here in US otherwise ppl wouldn't come here. Every time I go to Nepal, I hear so many BS about life here and mainly its due to the people like us living here paint a different picture about our life. We tend to sugarcoat our lives. Hide the reality, mainly cause we don't want our loved ones back home to worry about us, or may be ashamed of what we do here. First thing to do would be to educate people in Nepal what can they expect when they come here.
I recall one interesting moment, I was visiting Nepal in 2004, I was at my friends place just hanging out. People started coming in and there was this discussion about what happens in USA, or life in USA. There was this leader type guy who was preaching on and on about things supposedly happen here (Later I found out he hasn't even been to India let alone USA). What he was saying was totally wrong. I tried to correct him, testo hunna baru yesto hunchha, then he got defensive and asked me, tapain kahaan basnu hunchha, I said Minnesota ko yo sahar ma, then he just shrugged me off saying, tyo pakkai pani america ko gaun hunu parchha jahaan tyo hunna, tapainlai kehi thaha nai rahenachha, bekkar ma almalayera. I was just shocked and said nothing.
I came here as a student, graduated and my graduation year I won the lottery too. I got my degree and GC at the same month. I have traveled to many parts of US for the last 7 yrs that I have been here and seen a lot of ppl. Been to OC and stuffs too. Like someone said earlier, the only decent life that you can have here is if you have a degree here and get a decent job, or have some principle amount so that you can start your own business. Ppl who cannot speak in english properly will have hard time here.

Sorry for this long and boring paragraph... but the solution I see is to educate your loved ones back home about the real situation here and then let them decide whether they wanna come here or not. Please do not lie about what you do or how hard ur life is. We all know its hard back home too.

Mike, after analyzing your post in different threads...you seem to be well established and knowledgeable Nepali, always anxious to come forward to help Nepalese(Exception is:you were hurting Binaya in other thread just because his aregument were not the same as yours)...

But pretty sure, you are not a dekchi driver...even if you are,it doesn't matter since you are working hard and making money not opting for easy money...

Good luck...

Ha..Ha..ha.. Civil Jobs forget about that, Joining armed forces.. be ready to go to conflict zones. Best thing is to go for masters. You can get partial scholarship for pursuing master degree.
With part time job no problem paying tuition either.
Dont be greedy for saving dollars initially. If you have completed Bachelor, finish your masters here and you will land up with a decent paying job. Dhoti haru ko gas station or restaurant ma dhoti ko chak sugnu pardaina .
Thanks.
