Dear Friends,

We have all been mourning a very tragic incident involving 3 young Nepali students from Minnesota. As a tribute to departed souls, let us please make it a habit to BUCKLE UP every time we are in a car regardless of if we are the driver or in the passenger seat or in the back seat. In the case Nishma, Bedija, and Utsav, who were all traveling in the back seat of the car without their seatbelts on, at the time of accident. The driver of the vehicle and the front seat passenger escaped the accident with only minor injuries as they both had their seatbelts on. Similarly, the 82 years old driver of the oncoming vehicle involved in the accident only sustained minor injuries as he too was wearing his seatbelt. Had our fellow brother and sisters had their seatbelts on, it might have made a difference.

So please please please, next time you’re in a car BUCKLE UP.

SEATBELTS SAVE LIVES.

in memory of three wonderful souls....forever young....

Seatbelts do save lives.

my heartfelt condolences to the people involved.

but if any of you read the report, it clearly mentions that the driver was making AN U-TURN on a 2 LANE highway from RIGHT SHOULDER.

NO OFFENSE... that was clearly a suicidal act. moving towards the shoulder and then trying to MAKE a u turn on a 2 lane highway. [ one should know either make a U TURN from left lane and get to the right shoulder of the other side. or exit and enter again in NORTHBOUND (in their case)]. one is vulnerable from traffic following you as well as coming towards u on the opposite side. [ clearly .. it was a foolish act. ]

no_one,
honestly, no ACCIDENTS do not always happen because of foolish act.

there are lot of things that one can choose not to do and avoid.

examples can be taken out from the news of recent death of nepalese posted here in sajha.
case of shekher where he was shot was a pure accidental. he did not have control over it. there was nothing foolish about people going to work. it was not a stupid act. BUt he was shot. victim of some crack head's act.

in this case, they had a choice of following TRAFFIC rules and OBEY them. they chose not to. Thus, there are victims.

[ in rash terms .. one can b in accidents by being a i. CRACK HEAD or being a ii. VICTIM of CRACK HEAD. ] BY our CHOICE of ACTION we can AVOID being the first one. BUT ITS NOT IN OUR CONTROL TO BE INVOLVED IN THE SECOND ONE.

my 2 cents

Well I agree that it is a foolish act but If I am not mistaken these 3 nepalese sitting at back seats without seatbelts. There is no fault of those 3 ppl at all beside seatbelts. I think hukka-nepali just trying to pursue how important the seatbelts for both pessengesr n driver.

Accidents don't come with the sign.

Accidents may not necessarily happen just because of one driver as in the case of collision.
No matter how much we try to follow the rule, the other person breaking the rule may come to hit your car.
I hesitate to say that these 3 nepalese guys have faults for not wearing seat belts, but perhaps their ignorance.

This accident atleast has taught me a lesson that no matter whether we sit at the back or front, 'seat-belts' are the must and life-saviors.

This case shows that everything is not in the hand of 'Daiba', and 'seat-belt' is perhaps 'the daiba' during car-accidents, and can become the life-savior.

Neptex, u r right. But our typical mentality is saying proverbs n' also using 'daiba'. Though everything is not in our hand, we should do atleast what's in our hand. That's the main point.

Here in the U.S there's a lot a risk while driving as we all know. The fault doesn't need to be ours in most of the cases. There are a lotta things contributing to the death of people where car accidents are concerned..drunk drivers etc. Yes this seatbelt thing is really important. And the most important thing is "Do not take a U turn" no matter where you are driving. I never do it even if I'm not driving in a highway.
