If you have Master's degree and Green Card, what are you worried about?
What do you need to learn in SQL Server? Having a Masters Degree, you should not have problem in SQL Server. You must have studied for at least 2 years.

Way to go buddy...
Quick note: Try to switch to Oracle. It has more money. Everyone knows SQL Server.

You have a GC, that's added advantage among others, and you have Master's Degree in Information System, what a combination? you should have already been in market, go to any IT consultancy, get a project, don't worry about pay for first project, even 30-35 is ok, since you have GC they should pay little more. there is no good and bad marketing, just get experience anywhere for first one then from second you will be able to decide.

Thanks a lot Nepalibudho and Problemsolver, I have been doing SQL marketing with one of the consultancy but i am hardly getting any requirements from them that's why i am trying to find another consultancy which can do aggressive marketing for me ! Realtime experience makes a lot difference here. Once i land my first job, i am confident that i can handle it. Getting 1st job is getting a lot challenge here !

getting project is not easy, especially if you are not affiliated with one of the big vendors. What consultancy does is throws your fake resume in the pool and if you get lucky you get the project. So, don't just stick with SQL server or database, go for any QA/BA or whatever you find to get initial experience. Then, you can do guff gaff, expand in next project.

where are you located?

there is couple of Nepalese IT consultancy in Dallas, or go to sulekha.com and go to IT Training/Placement, talk with them. tell them you have GC and MIS and rest what they say to get a training, tell them market only.

please guys help me out too. i am little on the older side (36) and don't have many true friends where i live. I did my undergrad in info systems and masters in mba , i am dead bored of the non IT field. at this age, i don' t think going to school is the best idea, so i need to go into IT. i have done c++, and database in the college but no real time experience. I am scared to go to indian consultancies because i have heard they make you sign contract and sue you if you break them.. please guide me. i am so lost. i have always lived in small towns and small places and don' t know how to land a job or a consultancy. i can learn technologies and programming fact if i dedicate time but do you think i still have chance? i ask this because IT seems like is for young people.. do u think i should learn Networking, i can go to school if i have to for a year or two and get my masters, do you think that would worth it? it seems like all my dv friends from Nepal without any IT classes are getting IT jobs, so what's the point of going to school for 2nd masters, thats how i feel like..

@taxidriver

You are still young, well not as young as like 25 years one, but still you are young. It is never too late to start anything my friend.

Having said that, let me ask you this.

When you are in college did you enjoy C++ or database class ? if you liked C++ go for web developer if you have enjoyed database, then go as a Database Developer.

" i can learn technologies and programming fact if i dedicate time but do you think i still have chance? "

Yes, you still have chance and I know you can do it. Just don't let anything pull you back.

To land a job, you have two options

1) go to a consultancy.
or
2) apply yourself as a junior level (if you have GC this is another option).

if you need any info let us know.

Good Luck.
