Please post the best quotes or verses you know on/by Hinduism. Please try and poste quotes and small verses only. Nothing long. I will make another thread for long articles.

One of my favourites:

Hare Krishna Hare Krishna
Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama
Rama Rama Hare Hare

Hey, you all don't have to provide the sources of your quotes (until and unless someone asks for it). Anyway, here is another good quote:

"Hindu religion does not consist in struggles and attempts to believe a certain doctrine or dogma, but in realizing not in believing, but in being and becoming."

- Swami Vivekananda

"I'm a Hindu like most of my friends in America who grew up staunch-Hindu. We had Christmas in my house and we had Jewish friends, but I did grow up a Hindu."

“The apparent multiplication of gods is bewildering at the first glance, but you soon discover that they are the same GOD. There is always one uttermost God who defies personification. This makes Hinduism the most tolerant religion in the world, because its one transcendent God includes all possible gods. In fact Hinduism is so elastic and so subtle that the most profound Methodist, and crudest idolater, are equally at home with it.”

Danger,

Thanks for the feedback. The above quote that I put (03-04-07 12:42 PM) was actually from Sri Ashok Singhal itself.

I checked with my friend and on the internet regarding remarks made by the Holy Sankaracharya. His Holiness Sri Sankaracharya, on his visit to Nepal, had actually proclaimed something like, 'The King of Nepal is the King of all the Hindus in the world'.

And so yeah. Similar comments but coming from two distinguished personalities and scholars.

"परिवर्तन संसारका नियम है । जिसे तुम मृत्यु समझते हो, वही तो जीवन है । एक क्षण में तुम करोडों के स्वामी बन जाते हो, दुसरे ही क्षण में तुम दरिद्र हो जाते हो । मेरा-तेरा, छोटा-बडा, अपना-पराया, मन से मिटा दो फिर सब तुम्हारा है, तुम सबके हो ।"

"एक क्षण में "

It is not 'ek Krishna' but 'ek chand' (moment).

Some spelling mistakes in Hindi from your side and sometimes it is difficult to type in Devnagri script. But thanks, it was a good one.

"Hinduism is a living organism liable to growth and decay subject to the laws of Nature. One and indivisible at the root, it has grown into a vast tree with innumerable branches. The changes in the season affect it. It has its autumn and its summer, its winter and its spring. It is, and is not, based on scriptures. It does not derive its authority from one book. Non violence has found the highest expression and application in Hinduism."

"Hinduism is like the Ganga, pure and unsullied at its source but taking in its course the impurities in the way. Even like the Ganga it is beneficent in its total effect. It takes a provincial form in every province, but the inner substance is retained everywhere."

"I am unable to identify with orthodox Christianity. I must tell you in all humility that Hinduism, as I know it, entirely satisfies my soul, fills my whole being, and I find solace in the Bhagavad Gita and the Upanishads that I miss even in the Sermon on the Mount....I must confess to you that when doubts haunt me, when disappointments stare me in the face, and when I see not one ray of light on the horizon I turn to the Bhagavad Gita, and find a verse to comfort me; and I immediately begin to smile in the midst of overwhelming sorrow. My life has been full of external tragedies and if they have not left any visible and indelible effect on me, I owe it to the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita."

We are the birds of the same nest,
We may wear different skins,
We may speak different languages,
We may believe in different religions,
We may belong to different cultures,
Yet we share the same home - OUR EARTH.

Born on the same planet
Covered by the same skies
Gazing at the same stars
Breathing the same air
We must learn to happily progress together
Or miserably perish together,
For man can live individually,
But can survive only collectively

- Atharva Veda

Hey Yusuf alam,

i serched through manusmriti but couldn't find the above line you have written that says: "molten lead should be put in ears of lower caste people if they listen to any vedic mantras."

it sure talks a lot about caste and how to deal with caste related issues. but i am eager to find out if what you stated is true we need to ban this kind of nonsense. thanks

Here are some quotes from Bhagavad Gita.

“The mind acts like an enemy for those who do not control it.”

“Perform your obligatory duty, because action is indeed better than inaction.”

“Fear not what is not real, never was and never will be. What is real, always was and cannot be destroyed.”

Although I’m a hindu, I do not believe on some corrupt like Ashok Singhal and Shankaracharya. I do not believe that protecting the king is the solo duty of hindu and that hindu King is reaction of lord Vishnu. That is full of crap…
Here are some link on Ashok Singhal and Shankaracharya.

Vishnu Shlokam

Shanta Karam Bhujaga Shayanam
Padmanabham Suresham
Vishvadharam Gagana Sadrsham
Megha Varnam Shubhangam
Lakshmi Kantam Kamala Nayanam
Yogibhir Dhyana Gamyam
Vande Vishnum Bhava Bhaya Haram
Sarva Lokaiaka Natham

I adore Vishnu, the embodiment of Peace, who sleeps on the serpent,
Whose naval is the lotus of the Universe
Who is the Lord of the Gods, who is the support of the Universe, Who is in the form of Space (the Omnipresent)
Whose color resembles that of clouds, Whose body is auspicious
Who is the Lord of Lakshmi, whose eyes are like lotuses
Who is attainable by Yogis through meditation
Who is the destroyer of the fear of birth and death
And who is the One Lord of all the Worlds
