So here's my attempt at being religious. Swasthani serves a great deal of importance for Nepalese people around the world. Some, however, do not have access to it. So I thought, why not make it available for everyone? So voila, I thought of an idea: put the Adhyayas (Chapters) online. And that's my project.

http://thedoctorbee.blogspot.com

that's the link. You'll find the two chapters that have been read there.

And please leave comments! Your feedback is very important.

Thanks

db

drbee,
Good job well done, great voice. I had a chance to know more about you and your blog, keep it up and best of luck for your studies. Audio blog about India , and Kathmanndu via sunauli took me back in to those days.

BTW, how man have you done from your 101 wish list?

Thank you doctorbee.
A very good effort to bring a Nepali custom (As far as I know) which bring fonds memories of cold winter days and its charms.
I remember when I was a kid, my granny reading it and we kids being interested more in Bakampa (prasad) than the story.

Doctorbee,

That's very commendable. I don't think it has anything to do with being religious or not. Swasthani has some of the most incredible stories that go beyond human comprehension. It makes me wonder about the creativity of the person that actually wrote all these back in the days. Wouldn't be far fetched, of some of the herbs he/she was taking, some of them might have been accidental psychedelic ones eh?> :)

Dakshya Prajapati is one of the key names i remember so vividly. Maybe I will read them this year and have JD as prasad :). thanx for the link.

Well the question was asked what have I done on that 101 List on my web site?

Let's see:

Record radio show (done: Swasthani counts as one, plus I have another one below it)
Go to Taj Mahal (done: did that ten years ago...but I put it on the list so that I could do it again)
Attend Macy's Thanksgiving Parade (done: did that four years ago, but I would like to go again)
Have a wonderful family (I already do. haha. I was just talking about a family of my own after I get married)

That's all...I've come close to memorizing "One Week" by Barenaked Ladies though, so we'll see.

Yup

Lemoney - Everytime I think of swasthani "Kumarji agya garnu huncha" involuntarily comes to my mind! How about the last page of the book itself where you have to read after finishing up the chapter. Sabai poli khayechu, yeuta pani yaad aayena - the sentences from the last page of the book.

Thank you doctorbee!

Flips.. I knoow, right? Its the same with me! whenver the swasthani barta katha is mentioned i tend to think of "kumar ji aagya garnu huncha hai agastha muni" .. those were the days! I somewhat remember the opening sanskrit verses .. goes something like "upanayetam magalama sakajana mangalalaye sriman dirakarana ...... ani k k k " and the one towards the end chahi polera khaye :O i used to know it soo well ! :( budhi bhaye ;) actually only if i could just get hold of the first few lines you know.. and i'm sure it'll come back to me.
Happy reading to ya!

Lemoney - Aba no shanti without finding those slogans! It was not hard to remember those lines as we were supposed to memorize similar slogans in one of my sanksrit classes. I guess it says pundarik ani k k pani. Aba sochda sochda hairan huney bho.

Thanks Lemoney! :-)

So I have a tendancy of putting Bhajans on the readings--it kind of sets the mood and stuff. I don't, however, have any Nepali Bhajans. I'm sure there are a lot of them...Bhajans are Bhajans, whether in any language, but I'd LOVE to have some Nepali Bhajans. Anyone have any suggestions where I could find them??

If you do, or if you can send it to me my email address is:
6.02x10tothe23rd@gmail.com

Ok, how about this--send me any Bhajans you have in your collection. From "Hallelujah" to "Jay Jay Shiv Shankar" it doesn't matter

Thanks!
