I am leaving for Nepal soon. I made a new passport in the US as my old one expired but my visa is in the old one. Do i need to get visa in the new one when i am in Nepal so that it is easier for me? Has anyone done it before. Appreciate your suggestions.

you just have to carry two passports, that is it. show your visa in the old and get stamped arrival and departure in the new.
You don't want to get a new visa in new passport. I did the same during my visit to Nepal.

If you can change visa to the New PP without any len-den, do it for your convenience. Otherwise, people ask you many things in the immigration. I have very bad experience.

Well, i have heard that visa in expired passport will be automatically invalid. Why don't you go to U.S. Embassy as soon as you landed at Kathmandu ? Otherwise you won't get nice sleep.LOL

I was in the same situation as you Sheetalb. When you go to the US Emb to get a new visa, they will stamp it in your new passport, BUT you will need to take the old passport too since the old visa is there. The US guy will stamp "invalid" on ur old visa. SO MAKE SURE YOU TAKE YOUR OLD VISA/PASSPORT.
Good Luck!!

(Oh sorry Im not talking abt US visa, i. e. European one)

***Do not Do This******

Hello Seta.........

I had the same problem three years back. I had the VISA in the old one, and the passport was expired. I made a new passport, and the problem was the visa was in the expired one.

So i simple took an advice of my best friend at Kathmandu, and tore out the VISA Sticker from the old passport and glued in the new one. Problem solved.

I was rejected entry in the Nepal airport, had to go back to the embassy and they too rejected my visa.

Now i am here in Denmark with my Sunita, though i am a US citizen right now.

This is what is written on the last page of Nepali passport:

Notice:

1. The passport is valid for the period specified on the photo page.

This means that the passport is INVALID beyond that date.

You have a good case but why take unnecessary chances? If a good-hearted fellow checks your both passports, he may probably let you through. But a stubborn officer might successfully argue that your expired passport is simply irrelavant. So the onus lies on you to produce a valid document to the officers at port.

My suggestion: get a new visa on the new passport. It might not be difficult as you already have one, albeit on an expired passport.

Hey Sheetalb:

I also went back to Nepal and came here to the US without anyone questioning why I had visa in my expired passport. Why are you taking unnecessary jhanjhat? Why you want to spend $100 for application for nothig, dude. Grow up, people are making fun of your ignorance here.
Listen to what Elixir, Nails and Rein said in this thread. Rest is up to you.
