sauravojha - I guess the answer to your question is difficult since I don't know your line of work & your long term plans. Anyways here's my attempt. Northern California is an excellent choice for immigrants. California is the most diverse and also the most populated state in US. Besides this, in my opinion San Francisco is the most beautiful city in US. It has character.....not just tall bldgs. Being such a huge state & its geographic location, you can enjoy anything like beach, snow in lake Tahoe, desert down south, and the best part of Northern California is the weather. No snow in Bay area...Foggy mornings in the winter time...mountains in your sight....will remind you of Nepal...:)

As for RN in CA…depends on which city. To get some idea of salaries goto www.salary.com. In the Midwest RNs get $35 - $40 per hour and then there is always lots of overtime for nursing jobs…Good Luck!

California's definitely the best if your income is decent.

Now that you guys are saying it, I too feel like moving to San Francisco.

I have often heard that Bay Area is prohibitively expensive place to live. What's the rent like for two bedroom apt? In the city and about 30 mins out in suburb? The houses are probably too costly. How much would 3 bedroom townhouse cost, in the city and out in the suburb?

Google.com is a search engine.

http://money.cnn.com/best/bplive/

Take the advice here with a grain of salt. The best place to live is where you have work, friends, family, safety, opportunity and climate.

Lucky are those
who can ask what should I eat,
what should I wear and
WHERE IS THE BEST PLACE TO SETTEL IN U.S.A?

Most of us live
where we wind up
where we can
just breath.

Feeling lucky
I woke up to live
just another
day . . .

How unfortunate!

Saurav JI,
My choice is North Carolina if you've kids. If not, go to L.A.(CA), Seatle (WA), Chicago(IL), Boston(MA), New York or big ciites to make some money.
Good Luck!!!

Blue collar jobs: Automotive technician, carpenter, electrician, aviation mechanic, plumber, pipefitter, welder, and other skilled trade jobs. High school education is enough. Eg. working for ABC Plumbing.
White collar jobs: Software, financial services, product development jobs etc. Need undergraduate or master’s degree. Eg. working for IBM.

Depends on your skills & experience level. Some Carpenters & Plumbers make more money than a Software Engineer. Working at McDonald or gas station is usually minimum wage rate...like $6 - $10 per hour...so if you start out in McDonald's in CA, you probably will make $7.50 x 40 hours = $300 per week so 1200.00 a month b4 taxes. After taxes like....$900.00 a month or so.

LOL....$190,000 won't even get you a garage in CA...most Nepalis in Northern CA live in the Bay Area in suburbs like Fremont, SanJose, PaloAlto, Oakland, Berkeley, fewer live in downtown San Francisco, Daly City, Stockton, lots of Sherpa community in Sonoma & Napa Valley area...and some in Sacramento.

You can forget about buying a house in downtown San Francisco unless you win lottery or you have a really high paying job. For example buying a ok 3 bedroom...15-20 year old house in Fremont will cost you over $700,000 easily. If you are looking for brand new 3 bedroom house in Bay Area....be ready to finance over 1 million....:)

If you are looking to buy a house for $190,000, then you need to move to Texas.

Living cost in San Frans. bay area is expensive. Housing cost is very expensive. The cheap single family house is about 700,000. But 1 bed room apartment cost 1100 + (reasonable) depends upon the city of bay area.

If you are already offered a good paying job, then you may want to settle in Bay area, CA. If you have to start from scratch (like us) then you may want to consider other city. I heard that Texas, North Carolina ...is somewhat cheap.

Ojha ji, don't give all your information (name, status, $$ you save in bank) here in internet. And don’t rush to conclusion to buy house at this time. Ppl are saying housing market is at its peak and it will crash soon. Wait for few years until you develop your credit history here in US.

Finally welcome to America. America is same everywhere. It doesn’t matter a lot where do you live.
