Timetraveller, The second hint is bit misleading. ( I have seen this problem before). Instead of A asking: "Does your oldest son have red hair?" It should be B saying: My eldest son has red hair, OR my youngest son has red hair.

Okay, I am back! karmayodha You were very close to the answer, but that was not logically justified. No, no, your English is very good, but you it would still not be logical to say, "since nobody raised their hand, it must be me who has the red hat." :P Guest4 Not necessarily. Just because all of them don't know what is the color of their caps, one can be smart enough to say what color he is wearing. Republican and : "If A had a black hat - B would realize that C's hand was raised because B had a red hat or C would realize the same seeing B's raised hand." Yes!!!!!!! I find this would be the best way to logically describe the scenario. So the answer: If A was wearing black hat, it would be either B or C, whoever is smarter, that would raise his/her hand claiming that s/he must have the red hat. However, the case here is A can see that B and C are not claiming that one of them have red hat, A would be very certain (not because he sees them "confused") that he must be wearing the red hat. All of you guys were very close to the core of the logic! Now I'm in here, I will also try to see your guys' questions and work in it, time permitting. :)

Well, it apparently seems either it should 2, 4, 9 or 2, 2, 18 or 1, 8, 9 or 18, 4, 1 or 36, 2, 1 or 12, 6, 1, or 24, 3, 1. But not knowing what the red hair implies, it is not clear which answer is correct.

Hehe, Swatantratagaamy, did you sleep well? :P Okay, A thinks if he had a black cap, either B or C would have said they have red cap. Agreed? So, it is not the case B and C are not saying that they have the red cap since they know that A is NOT wearing black cap; which means A must be wearing red cap, and A speaks out the first.

Read the last sentence: "So, it is not the case that B and C are saying that they have the red cap since they know that A is NOT wearing black cap; which means A must be wearing red cap, and A speaks out the first."
