http://www.pranavdhakal.com/ Dear Sajha friends, Pranav Dhakal is our wonderful friend and it is on his behalf we are making this appeal. It is unfortunate that we could not introduce a person so cheerful, optimistic and compassionate in a better circumstance. Throughout these many years of friendship he has endlessly won our hearts with his witty "shayaris", empathetic spirit, and has personally impressed me with his enduring optimism. His motivation to help fellow Nepalese is unequaled. There are many of us whose memories with Pranav began at the airport, where he volunteered to pick up new Nepali students with that big smile on his face. Recently, Pranav was admitted to Overland Park Hospital in Kansas City to get treated for a rare infection. As of now, his condition is very CRITICAL. The infection has spread throughout his body including his heart, lungs, liver and kidneys. His brain has suffered a condition called "sinus thrombosis". Doctors say that it is difficult to cure this condition when only a minimal dose of antibiotics can be administered to him in order to prevent further damage to his kidneys. We felt helpless to see a person as enthusiastic and as motivated as Pranav lying on the hospital bed fighting for his life. This is an appeal on his behalf to pray for him and for his family during this difficult time. This is also an appeal to every one of you to DONATE whatever amount you can to help him cover the medical expenses but more importantly to bring his family members here to care for him. We thank you in advance for all your prayers and support. On behalf of Pranav Dhakal, ~ Friends of Pranav _________________________________________________________ Pranav's Associations: St. Xavier's School - 1996 batch (Kathmandu) Wichita State University (Wichita) Butler County Community College (Wichita) Park University (Kansas City) Pranav was also a resident of Boston, MA. .............................................. DONATIONS CAN BE SENT TO: Amar Bajracharya 13920 W 143rd Ct, Olathe, KS 66062 .............................................. PayPal will be setup SOON. http://www.pranavdhakal.com/ * I apologize for the misleading subject of this thread.

******************PLEASE RESPOND TO THIS****************** This is the right time to revamp our fundraising efforts. We have received funds from only 29 states and from 281 individuals. But I am NOT ready to believe that there are ONLY 281 big-hearted individuals wanting to help Pranav. Pranav’s condition warrants a unified support from every Nepali here and elsewhere. It warrants sprouting a sense of responsibility in EVERY ONE of us to help someone who has always believed in altruistically helping those in need. Pranav is putting up a fight against this infection and it is my belief that he is going to come out a winner. But I do not believe that we are going to let him fight alone. We are going to help him in every possible way we can and we are not going to let a friend down, we are not going to let a fellow Nepali in need down. So here is how you can help: Make a donation for Pranav NOW. (Donate online http://www.PranavDhakal.com or mail out a check today) Spread the news about Pranav to EVERYONE you know. Email me the name and contact info of the president of your community’s or university’s Nepali Organization. (help_pranav@yahoo.com) If you have an idea for a fundraiser for Pranav and want to talk to me about it, please feel free to reach Bijulee at: (316) 993-3210

Bijulee, can you enlighten something? What is the the disease? You wrote elsewhere that there are some bacteria in the blood? It is endocarditis? or sepsis? or simply bacteremia. since his heart involved most, it is very serious infection, i guess endocardits in acute phase (but other organs are also involving simultanously). It takes about 4-6 weeks of antibiotic treatment and surgery if it is most serious. Pacemaker itself is a predictor of endocarditis, so if it is not endocarditis, then he might have some chance of bacterial endocarditis in the future. however, some antibiotic should help. I am just curious what is the disease that made Pranav hospitalized for so long. I wish he will get well soon.

Pranav! You are a fighter...no doubt about it. Pashupati nath le rakchya abashya nai garcha. Bijulee tell him next time you meet him that this revival is praying and thinking about him each and every minute of the day even though I don't personally know him. Also tell him that I will come down to Kansas City and have a glass of beer with him after he becomes well!!!! This is a god promise! He is a true fighter! Folks let's try to help him out with donations if we can or else with prayers! He has already proved that our prayers are working really well for him. Bijuleee, whoever you are...you are angel sent down to earth from heaven to help Pranav at this very critical hour!!! I will share a glass of beer with you too :-) Cheers Revival

revival: I am still in Kansas City and I will pass on your message to Pranav in a few hours. Do angels drink beer too?? lol jk ;) Most Nepali communities and Nepali student organizations in the US and elsewhere are about to celebrate Nepali New Year. Perhaps we should start this New Year by trying to make a difference for a fellow Nepali in desparate need. That could be something we could be proud of all year long, and Pranav and his family will be proud of us all their life. If your organization is planning a New Years gathering PLEASE CONTACT Bijulee (316) 993-3210 You don't need a New Year's resolution when you can make a positive difference today. Please visit: http://www.PranavDhakal.com and make that difference. Show your care and support for Pranav with your donations and prayers.

sabkobhalohos and Revival: While we cannot estimate what the cost of the entire treatment is going to amount to, we can definitely find out how much has incurred so far. Perhaps this will proffer the projected cost. We do not have that information yet because the hospital gives it out only to the immediate family members. We began this fundraiser with the premise that Pranav had very little time to live. So it was our utmost priority to bring his parents here before he passed away (God forbid). Our goal has changed since. Pranav received excellent medical treatment. He is also in the prayers of thousands from all over the world and he is getting better, but this past one month has been a roller coaster ride not only for Pranav but for his family as well. This is the reason why I haven’t pressed them to inquire about the costs. Now that things are seemingly calmer, I just asked Mama to talk to the hospital administration about his medical costs. I was told that Pranav’s insurance only covers the first $3000. I found that odd because most student health insurance does not cover the petty expenses but covers well for something of this magnitude. Personally, I am not too worried about the ICU costs because, frankly, I do not think the donations we have collected (and will collect) is even going to come close covering a tiny portion of the total cost. ICU cost is going to be in the couple of hundred thousand dollars range, if not more. As I see it, the fund should be used for Pranav’s treatment when he gets out of the ICU. The doctors have said that it is going to take him more than a year for full recovery and there are various costs associated with that including costs for his continued treatment, medicine, physical therapy and perhaps many more that I cannot think of right now. I think covering the ICU cost should be a secondary priority because its not like he is not going to get treatment if he doesn’t have enough money; whereas he will not get physical therapy and other services if he cannot pay for them. It is just a personal thought. To get back to the point, I should get a number from the hospital soon and I will be more than happy to share that will all of you who have shown such exemplary support for Pranav. Thank you.

Yeah bijulee...i know hospitals fees are too expensive over here....insurance is just like business...they won't even tell you sometime what things they cover.....i think if you do'nt have enough money..it is better to pay minimum payment according to state law..but i don't know with such a huge billls how it works......
