Happy Monday guys!!!

When I was little girl, my grandfather used to read me Ramayana. The story used to fascinate me. Now after all these years, I want to know the story from Ravana’s perspective. I’ve been following a TV serial based on Ravana and I’m finding it really interesting.

It’s been a boring Monday morning. Wanted to open a new thread to see how my friends in Sajha were doing :)

It is said that Ravana had 10 heads and 20 hands .............but accordin to sdny ....the locket cud only provide illusion ...i.e Ravana had no 10 heads............????
When Ravana got boon from Brahma that no God can harm him he did not give importance to ask security from human and animals...........
So, bishnu had to born as human and had to defeat Ravana with the monkey-armies......

And it was so stupid of Ravana to rape Rambha............

Either Kuber or Rambha (Swarg ki apsara) cursed Ravan..

By the way, here is the story I found on Sita being Ravan and Mandodari's daughter.

Vedavati (Kushdwaj's daughter) was devotee of Vishnu and wanted to marry only Vishnu. She is described to be a very beautiful woman. Ravan sees her and proposes to marry her but she rejects. He rapes Vedavati. Vedavati immolates herself on a pyre and vows to return adn be the cause of Ravan's death. In the meantime, she receives boon to be married to Vishnu's human avatar. Ravana and his wife Mandodari grow estranged from each other. Mandodari soon finds herself pregnant, and fears that the child within her could be the reason of her husband's death, as per Vadavati's oath.

Mandodari goest to her her father's home in Jodhpur, and then on a pilgrimage, in order to prevent Ravana or anybody else to know that she is pregnant. As her confinement grows near, Mandodari seeks around for a suitable foster-home for her child. She discovers that Janaka is childless. A female child is born to Mandodari. Soon afterwards, just before Janaka begins ploughing a field preparatory to the intended rituals, Mandodari manages to spirit her baby into the field and into Janaka's path. King Janaka adopts her. sita came from earth and ended in earth.

These legends build on ancient Indian traditions which hold, in wry spirit, that one's worst enemies are re-born as one's own children to fulfill the karma of one's sins.

GOD KNOWS..

Ram is said to be born for two reasons, One to kill Ravan and another because Vishnu was cursed by Narad Muni.. (Mahendra Mala in school days... :)

In one of the versions that I heard, it was neither Rambha nor Kuber who cursed Ravana. It was Nalakubar - one of Kuber's sons. Nalakubar was Rambha's lover. When he found out about Ravana's attempt on Rambha, Nalakubar cursed him.

Ravana was really lusty...............haha that brought his death
here what i found about Ravana longing to women
Ravana was known for his virility as well as his aggressive conquests of women. Ravana had several wives, foremost of whom was Mandodari (she got her name from Mandore, Jodhpur her parents ruled Mandore) - daughter of Mayasura and an apsara. Mandodari was renowned for her wisdom and grace as well as beauty. In addition to his wives, Ravana maintained a harem of incredible size, populated with women whom he captured in his many conquests. Ravana forced himself upon any woman who rejected his advances. Two significant encounters occurred that would shape the course of the Ramayana.

The first was the molestation of the sage-woman Vedavati. Vedavati had been performing penance with the intention of winning Lord Vishnu for a husband. Ravana met her at her hermitage, her beauty enhanced by the austerities she had performed. She, however, rejected his advances. Ravana proceeded to forcibly take her, upon which she prophecied that she would return to the mortal world as the cause of his death. She then created a pyre and let herself be consumed in it. She was re-born as Sita, thus becoming Vishnu's (as Rama) wife, and the cause of Ravana's defeat.

The other was the molestation of the apsara (celestial dancing girl) Rambha, who turned out to be betrothed to Kubera's son Nalakuvara. Ravana was enamoured of her, and not even this plea deterred him. Kuvera's son then cursed Ravana's heads to fall off, if ever he forced himself on any woman. This curse is said to have kept Sita chaste, while she was Ravana's captive for nearly a year.

Mai chhori,

I looked again and I found out that Ahiravan was indeed Ravana's son - not his brother. He abducted Raam and Laxman and carried them to the underworld with him. Hanuman came to the rescue and killed Ahiravan.

I also remember reading it in Amar Chitra Katha comics when I was a kid.

here is another interesting tale
Another tale notes that when Lord Shiva married Parvati, he asked Vishwakarma to build a beautiful palace for them to reside. Vishwakarma put up a palace made of gold. For the housewarming ceremony, Shiva invited the wise Ravana to perform the "Grihapravesh" ritual. After the sacred ceremony when Parvati asked Ravana to ask anything in return as "Dakshina", Ravana, overwhelmed with the beauty and grandeur of the palace, asked for the golden palace itself. They acceded to Ravana's wish, and the Golden Lanka became Ravana's palace.

this is much interesting .....................

The Ramayana is not the only religious scripture that views Ravana as evil.

In the Bhagavata Purana, Ravana and his brother, Kumbakarna were said to be reincarnations of Jaya and Vijaya, gatekeepers at Vaikunta, the abode of Vishnu and were cursed to be born in Earth for their insolence.

These gatekeepers refused entry to the Sanatha Kumara monks, who, because of their powers and austerity appeared as young children. For their insolence, the monks cursed them to be expelled from Vaikunta and to be born in Earth. The all-merciful Vishnu agreed that they should be punished but agreed to mitigate their curse. He asked them whether they would want to be undergo seven births as devotees of Vishnu or three births as enemies of the Lord. Since they wanted to get back as soon as possible, they agreed to be born in three births as enemies of God.

In the first birth, Jaya and Vijaya were born as Hiranyakashipu and Hiranyaksha. Vishnu incarnated as Varaha and Narasimha and killed them both. In Treta Yuga they were born as Ravana and Kumbhakarna and were killed by Rama. Then in Dwapara yuga, and in their final birth, Jaya and Vijaya they were born as Shishupala and Dantavakra and killed by Sri Krishna. After the end of three births, they returned to Vaikunta.
