Whatever befalls him,
He is always happy.
He wanders where he will.
And wherever he finds himself
When the sun sets,
There he lies down to rest.
He does not care if the body lives or dies.
He is so firmly set in his own being,
He rises above the round of birth and death.

As a goldsmith fashions an old ornament into a new and more beautiful one, so the Self, having reached the end of the last life and dispelled all ignorance, makes for himself a new, more beautiful shape, like that of the devas or other celestial beings.

Anger will never disappear so long as thoughts of resentment are cherished in the mind. Anger will disappear just as soon as thoughts of resentment are forgotten.

Read the best books first, or you may not have a chance to read them at all
--Henry David Thoreau

Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn't learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didn't learn a little, at least we didn't get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn't die; so, let us all be thankful.

Do not overrate what you have received, nor envy others. He who envies others does not obtain peace of mind.
--Buddha (B.C. 568-488)

An insincere and evil friend is more to be feared than a wild beast; a wild beast may wound your body, but an evil friend will wound your mind.

The supreme Reality stands revealed in the consciousness of those who have conquered themselves. They live in peace, alike in cold and heat, pleasure and pain, praise and blame.

-Bhagavad Gita 6:7

There is nothing too difficult for a man who, before he acts,
Deliberates with chosen friends and reflects privately.

Never upset your mind
With yes and no.
Be quiet.
You are awareness itself.
Live in the happiness
Of your own nature,
Which is happiness itself.

-Ashtavakra Gita 15:19

The milk of cows of any hue is white.
The sages say that wisdom is the milk
And the sacred scriptures are the cows.

The ego is like a stick dividing water in two. It creates the impression that you are one and I am another. When the ego vanishes you will realize that Brahman is your own inner consciousness.

But there is no end to my divine attributes, Arjuna; these I have mentioned are only a few. Wherever you find strength, or beauty, or spiritual power, you may be sure that these have sprung from a spark of my essence.

-Bhagavad Gita 10:40-41

What pleasure it is to human beings everywhere
When their children possess knowledge surpassing their own!

When a mother hears her son heralded a good and learned man,
Her joy exceeds that of his joyous birth.

"The body does this, not I."
"My nature is purity."

With these thoughts,
Whatever he does,
He does nothing.

But he pretends not to know.

He finds freedom in this life,
But he acts like an ordinary man.

Yet he is not a fool.

Happy and bright,
He thrives in the world.

Those whose spiritual awareness has been awakened never make a false move. They don't have to avoid evil. They are so replete with love that whatever they do is a good action. They are fully conscious that they are not the doer of their actions, but only servants of God.

-Ramakrishna

Those who follow the path of service, who have completely purified themselves and conquered their senses and self-will, see the Self in all creatures and are untouched by any activity they perform.

I am forever pure.
What do I care who knows,
What is known,
Or how it is known?
What do I care for knowledge?
What do I care what is,
Or what is not?
I am forever still.
What are joy or sorrow,
Distraction or concentration,
Understanding or delusion?

-Ashtavakra Gita 20:8-9

"That which makes the eye see but cannot be
Seen by the eye, that is the Self indeed.
This Self is not someone other than you."

Dont do unto them that I dont want you to
If you ever do unto them what I dont want you to
You will be punished in hell
the wild birds with fiery beaks will take your eyes out
You will be thrown hot oil all over you skin
and many many more thnigs you will not like
So Dont do what I dont want you to
and do What I want you to

Here's (one of) my problem(s) with hinduism.
When I was little I was asked to respect the Gita because it was our "holy book" and i was also made to recite the verses that made no sense to me by people who said that would guarantee me an afterlife in swarga.
Years after that I read various translations of the Gita and have come to respect it a lot now that I actually understand the words. Here's one thing I understodd. Krishna explicitly tells Arjun that following the doctrines of the Vedas is futile. The main aim of the whole discourse is to make Arjun take his bow back and go out there and fight the war. To me, this implies that Krishna wants all of us go on with our everyday lives without actually worrying about the consequences of our actions. Now here's the problem: Why do people give up thier work and start praying day in and day out? How can inactivity get us anything? If Hindus claim to actually follow teachings of Krishna, why do they pray?

Trikal and others,

the Geeta that we recirte/read and are always willing to quote even when its absolutely unnecesary has some of the key verses missing. The one that is widely quoted "karman-de-wa dhikarasthe, ma faleshu kadachana" is wrong. Scholars now say that, this line itself has some missing particles and the verse/stanza is not what Krishna said or that was originally written.

I'll write more on this later, but thank's all for providing us with th jewels of Hindusim.

Maximum,

Let's not talk about what is right and what is wrong in our religion. I am a true devote of my religion. That's why, I am not gonna discuss with you about this topic.... Sorry :)

If other friends want's to discuss about it...I don't have any problem.....

Isoleted Freakji,

I would like to hear more about "karman-de-wa dhikarasthe, ma faleshu kadachana" It seems interesting....

God is really all-pervading, above the mind, without features, imperishable, and infinite. How can such a one be worshipped? That is why, out of compassion for his creatures, He takes the form of the guru. The guru is the supreme God enclosed in human skin. He walks the earth, concealed, bestowing grace on his disciples.

-Kularnava Tantra

There are ignorant people who speak flowery words and take delight in the letter of the law, saying there is nothing else. Their hearts are full of selfish desires, Arjuna. Their idea of heaven is their own enjoyment, and the aim of all their activities is pleasure and power. The fruit of their actions is continual rebirth. Those whose minds are swept away by the pursuit of pleasure and power are incapable of following the supreme goal and will not attain samadhi.

-Bhagavad Gita 2:42-44

In the hands of a benevolent man,
Wealth is like a medicinal tree whose healing gifts help all.

-Tirukkural 217

Trikal,
As much as your commitment to what you do appears to be exemplary, it is interesting that you decided to follow something without questioning it's righteousness.

Maximumji,

Thanks for understanding my perception with respect. Some people just can't get this simple and deep concept. Seems like you are spiritually wise person.

I believe,

Only the man without doubt (in the God)
Sees without seeing,
speaks without speaking,
Knows without knowing,
AND
Lives without fear of death....

TRIKAL.......
