महांकाल भैरब

पहिले पहिले धेरै पहिले, लिच्छबी कालको कुराहो यो। उपत्यकामा खडेरी परेछ, धेरै याम सम्म। पनी न पर्ने घाम टन्न।
पानी पार्ने उपाय अनेक् गरे। धेरै गण्यमान्य अनि तान्त्रिकहरु सरसल्लाह हुदां तान्त्रिकका पनि तान्त्रिक जामन: गुभाजुको नेत्रित्वमा ठुलो यज्ञ गर्ने र यज्ञको बलमा पानी पार्न सक्ने बैज्ञानिक आध्यत्मिक आधार देखिएकोले यज्ञ गर्ने निर्णयमा पुगे। यज्ञ सुरु भो, अग्नि दन्के, चारु स्वाहा गरे। सर्प देखि बिच्छि सम्म होमिए। हेर्दा हेर्दै आकाशमा अजङगको कालो मेघ देखा पर्यो। यति बिशाल र सघन बादल कहिलेइ देखिएको थिएन। सब खुशी भए। राजा जनता, वटुक, पण्डित। तर जामन: गुभाजुको अनुहारमा चमक भन्दा ज्यादा चिन्ता देखिए। सहकर्मी तान्त्रिकहरु छक्क परे। यत्रो साधनाको फल, आकाशमा देखिदां पनि जामन गुभाजु हर्षित छैन। सबै तान्त्रिकहरु जामन: गुभाजु भए ठाउंमा गए र जिज्ञासा राखे।
" गुरु देब, यज्ञ सफल भएको मा हजुर खुशी देख्नु हुन्न नि, यसको कुनै कारण छ कि, हामीले त बुझ्न सकेनौ""
जामन: गुभाजुले आफ्नो चिन्ता प्रकट गरे।
" मलाई यो मेघ प्राक्रितिक लागेन, पानीको कुनै अंश देख्दिन"
"कुनै दैबी छल वा पिसाच को संकट हुन सक्छ"
"त्यसैले म त्यो बादललाई धरतीमा झार्न चाहन्छु" "सत्य देख्न चाहन्छु"
जामन गुभाजुको यो तर्क सुने पछि सबैले त्यो रहस्यमय बादलको सत्य तथ्य बुझ्नै पर्ने ठहर गरी, जामन गुभाजुलाई शक्ति प्रयोग गर्न सहमति दिए।
गुभाजुले आफ्नो भए भरको तन्त्र मन्त्र प्रयोग गरी त्यो भिमकाय मेघलाई तारण लगाई झारे। झर्दा त बिशाल कालो रंगको ढुंगा झरे। करीब६ हात लामो, ३ हात चौडा र २ हात उचाइ को ढुङा झरे। घोर अपशकुन। हल्ला खल्ला सरसल्ला धेरै भयो। आकश बाट् बिशाल ढुङगा झरेकोमा। जामन: गुभाजुलाई लाग्यो तारणलागाइ झारेको ढुङगा चानचुने होइन। यो कसैको छद्मभेषी अबतार हुन सक्छ। तारण फुलाकेर, तन्त्रको बलले सही रुपमा प्रकट हुन आग्रह गरे। अचम्म, कालो बर्णको, भिमकाय शरिर भएको, सर्पको माला लगाएको, हातमा पात्र ( गुलपा), गढा, खड्ग बोकेको महांकाल रहेछ।
संसारलाई शत्रुबाट र संकटबाट् बचाउने देबको रुपमा।
त्यो थाहा पाए पछि, जामन: गुभाउजुले आफ्नो अज्ञानताको लागि माफि मागे र देशमा शंकट भएको लेअब देखि यहीँ राज हुन अनेक बिन्ति गरे।
महांकाल् देबताले " मलाई संसार भरिका भक्त र सत्यको रक्षा गर्नु छ त्यसैले एकै ठाउँमा बस्न मिल्दैन , त्यसले वत्स, तिम्रो आग्रहलाई मानेरै म हरेक शनिबार म अबश्य आउंछु । मलाई एउटा मन्दिर बनाएर र मुर्ति पनि राखि देउ, म आएर दर्शन् दिन्छु। "
एक दिनले न पुग्ने गुनासो गरे पछि भगवानले केही सहुलियत दिने निर्णय गर्नु भयो।
"हरेक शनिबार र आउंछु, आउंछु र मंगलबारको दिन पनि अन्य शंकटकालिन काम आइ परेन भने एच्छिकरुपमा आउछु र कान्तिपुर को दुख निबारण गर्न सक्दो मदत गर्छु"।
यति सुनेर जामन: गुभाजु लगायत सबै जनाले महांकाल देबताको जय जयकार् गर्न थाले।
अब त्यो ढुंगारुपी महांकाल खसेको ठाउं यद्यपी देख्न सकिन्छ, ढुँगा सहित। पुरानो बस पार्कबाट पुतली सडक , शंकर देब क्यामपस निस्कने बाटो थाहा नै होला। हो, अलि १सय मिटर जति ( बस पार्क बाट्) गए पछि बाया चुके निवास दाया पुलिस क्लबको गेस्ट हाउस आउछ। त्यहि पुलिस क्लबको पर्खाल मा अलि पर गए पछि शहीद शुक्र माध्यमिक बिद्यालयको सामुन्ने त्यो ढुँगा रुपी असली महांकाल देब देख्नु हुने छ। देखि हाले नमस्ते गरि हाल्नुस्।
हाल त्यो स्थानलाई सुरक्षितरुपमा बार लगाई, माथि सुनको जलप भएको झल्लर राखिएको छ। ( ठुल्दाई नगरपालिकामा काम गर्दाको एक धार्मिक र मार्मिक कामको नमुना)।
त्यसैले ठुलदाईले शनिबार र मंगलबार् बाहेक अरु दिन त्यो महांकाल स्थान( टुंडिखेल-मिलिटरि अस्पताल) मा नमस्ते गर्दैन। देब नै नहुने बेला ढुँगालाई मात्र के नमस्ते गर्नु? होइन र? अस्तु!!!!!!!!!!

प्रसंगवश, करुणाकर वैद्यज्यू हो कि सत्यमोहन जोशीज्यूको एउटा किताब छ ('नेपालका लोककथाहरु' भन्ने)। त्यसमा उपत्यकाका धेरै मठ-मन्दिर-शक्तिपीठहरुसंग जोडिएका किंवदन्तीहरु छन्।

I am extremly surprised and disappointed to see that many Sajha users here who I presume are educated outside of Nepal believe in stories like this.
This is just a story and should stay like it is. It is not a historical fact.

Can anyone imagine that during Lichhavi period (that is A.D), when in Europe there were scientific discoveries done by normal human beings, when thousands of years earlier Egypt had her pyramids done by normal humans, when Charlamange (King of Gaul/France) had introduced the systme of schools, something godly happened in another part of the same planet? That a God appeared in Nepal, when on other parts of the earth there were kings, human civilizations, wars etc? What about the cave dewellers (more than 35000 years ago) of France, NEANDETRAL? l

If things like this had taken place, why the hell do Gods not make such apperances anymore? And if Mahankal was to come help Nepal, why does Nepal rank one of the poorest, least unfortunate countries in the world? Or was he just bullshitting when he made his apperance?

It is sad that people cannot find a difference between fairy tale and historical fact. And it is even more dissapointing when people who have been exposed to a different culture, had opportunities to get better education believe in these bullshit.

May be this is why we nepalese are where we are today, in misery; because we are waiting for Gods to come and get us out of our shit, instead of using out brains and moving our lazy butts.

मन्दिरमा लाइन बसेर ( झिल्के पहिरन सहित), पूजाथाली रंगाएर, धूप बालेर आस्थाको भगवान खुशी हुने होइन। त्यो त चाकडि गर्ने सनातन बानीको नमूना मात्र हो। आस्थाले पुज्ने हो। एकाग्र मनको आँखाले एकै छिन संझिनुस् त महांकाल------ आँखा अगाडि झल्झली आउने छ। त्यही को पुज्ने , पुछ्ने तरिका। लड्डु , पेडा र सोम रसमा देब रमाउदैन, केवल पूजारी रमाउंछन्। अस्तु।

As far as I know 1500 years ago, only one civilization was developed or modern, and that was the Tang dynasty China. Others were still lagging behind. Europe was still pretty backward compared to China and India.

Look man, you cannot comment that lightly on religion and faith. You cannot look for scientific basis for everthing that people believe in. Its the faith, the belief in something that is required to maintain the social cohesion/order. Without it everything will fall apart. Mahankaal Bhairav, Kaal Bhairav on the one hand and calm Bishnu and Ganesha on the other has what has made the Hindu society of Kathmandu (including the Newar Buddhists) maintain the social hierarchy that gets altered (well, its not the right word but I can't think of it right now) in our day-to-day activities.


And hey, if 1500 years ago people in Europe believed that a virgin could give birth to a baby, then why can't we believe that Mahankal Bhairav flew to Kathmandu? Also waht scientific discoveries were made 1500 years ago in Europe? I don't know of any scietific discoveries made in Europe then.

What about the cave dewellers (more than 35000 years ago) of France, NEANDETRAL?

Now let's talk about the Neanderthals. Archaeologists agree that it was from the time of neanderthals we started to believe in supernatural. For example, the cave paintings/totems, and their burial rituals. If you have time go to the smithsonian and see the exhibit on neanderthals. The neanderthals tied their dead's hands and legs so that it wouldn't come back to haunt them.

If we are to talk of fairly modern period in Archaeology, i.e., the emergence of jericho as the first nation state, there too, archeaologists have uncovered idols that are quite similar to the Hindu idols.

If you are into Archaeology, and would like to discuss it, I suggest you read a great book/novel- The Clan of the Cave Bear. Amazing book.
